Bright sound, very limited functionality

The Minor III certainly stays on brand with clean, detailed sound and strong connectivity in a handsomely nostalgic design. Areas where Marshall struggled in the past have been improved, including touch controls and call quality. It’s also nice to have Bluetooth 5.2 and wireless charging onboard. Unfortunately, the poor fit, subpar battery life, and extremely limited feature set make these buds an iffy investment. With a straight band and heavily padded on-ear cushions, the headphones are designed to be comfortable for long periods of time, although we did experience a little discomfort from the pressure on ears after a long listening session. If you also have this problem with on-ear headphones, we’d recommend opting for over-ear headphones, which are usually more comfy, surrounding your ears rather than being placed on top of them. Clarity is good, but the Marshall Major III don’t offer quite the sound scale of the very best at the price. Where these headphones fall down is in the bass department, with slightly rolled-off frequencies which bassheads probably won’t appreciate. The Marshall Major III are less sturdy and premium-feeling than the MID, however. Where the latter sports a solid, all-metal headband, the Major IIIs have plastic hinges, and the headband pares right down to just spokes by the cups. First, there’s a lot of synthetic leather. Sadly, so much of the Minor III buds is so bad that it overshadows the sound. I mean, no ANC, no assistant support, and no app is bad enough, but the ergonomic design is even worse. The fit is terrible; it’s just plain bad. And the in-ear detection issue had me counting to 10, as it had me readjusting the earbuds over and over again. Finally, the pain caused by the uncomfortable fit made these an easy thumbs down. Another attractive feature is the ability to share your audio using the included 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable. Plug the cable into the Major IV, connect it to any pair of headphones with a 3.5mm port and whatever you’re listening to will be played through the other device as well. A section of the cable stretches so you don’t have to worry about pulling the headphones off your head if one of you moves, which is a nice touch. Opportunities to take advantage of such a feature may not present themselves too often – particularly at the moment – but it’s a thoughtful and useful inclusion nonetheless.
