About this deal

I thought it was incredible, considering it is a silly song, he was taking it so incredibly seriously.” The series eschews CGI. “We use puppetry to make the toys come alive and stop motion animation for Moon Baby. We’re trying to make a different world that doesn’t look like anything else out there. It’s a handcrafted with 500 individually-designed props and furnishings. The viewer is at eye level and sees the whole toy house.” In The Night Garden was another billion-pound hit for Davenport (BBC)

Pepi Nana is the favourite doll of the child we see putting her to bed in the Toy House at the beginning of every Moon and Me episode. For Moon and Me, Davenport, 53, teamed up with the University of Sheffield to develop a project in which cameras were set up all over a toy house, so they could observe a day in the life of a toy while they’re being played with. The series “taps into children’s innate curiosity and desire to create through their play routines, forming their own imaginary worlds and relationships through their toys.” Even now, Davenport is glad of the chance to explain how much thought goes into his hit shows. Yet despite his slightly terrifying insight into these unknowable little minds, he still gets extremely nervous before any new programme airs.

One petrified parent said: “When something is THIS disturbing for adults and still appealing to children it makes me feel like they know exactly what they're doing and just seeing how far they can push it at this point.” The whole thing has the magical vibe of In the Night Garden, but with a homemade feel … Pepi Nana and Mr Onion in Moon and Me. Photograph: N/A/BBC We’ve not even started watching Moon and Me, the new CBeebies show by Teletubbies creator Andrew Davenport, and it’s already a hit in our house. Move over Tinky Winky and Igglepiggle – meet Moon Baby, Colly Wobble and the magical Pepi Nana, with her catchphrase “tiddle toddle!”.

Join Pepi Nana, Moon Baby and all their comical Toy House friends as they go on a magical adventure in a land of story. A ‘HAUNTING’ new CBeebies TV show is giving parents nightmares and some are describing it as worse than most horror films. Colly Wobble likes to do everything the wrong way round or upside down. She loves to stand on her head and show the smiley faces on the soles of her Colly Wobble shoes. She loves to read books, especially if she can hold them upside down! There’s a pause. “Er ... no. In a word. I don’t know whether to look that up or not! But if you worry about stuff like that you’re in the wrong business. People are creative, they write their own jokes and obviously there are readings that are ... less savoury, that I probably wouldn’t want to know about.” Debuted in 1997 and has now seen by an estimated billion children in 120 countries. Controversy followed the four creatures with televisions on their abdomens who played each day in Teletubbyland.Davenport, 53, who has a BSc in speech sciences, conducted his own academic research before embarking on the project. “I was interested in the literary storm of ‘toy house’ stories in the middle of the nineteenth century which are still in print today,” Davenport told i.

Davenport already has plans for fifty more Moon and Me episodes although his shows appear about as regularly as new Kate Bush albums. “I’d love to make the next one in less than ten years time,” he admitted. “This is just the time it takes to develop a show like this. Moon and Me just felt like the right thing to do next.” Pepi Nana says “tiddle toddle” because those kinds of sounds are how children learn to play with language, says Davenport, who has no children of his own but plenty of godchildren. Moon Baby, Lambkin, Mr Onion, Sleepy Dibillo, Colly Wobble, Pepi Nana, Little Nana (BBC) Each Davenport series has its own distinct visual style. “With Teletubbies we had to build a believable scale world from a child’s point of view around adult actors in suits.”FOUR FELT COLOURING BOARDS - A fun, screen-free creative activity that is a great introduction to arts and crafts for kids. Each of the velvet pictures has a different design featuring Pepi Nana, Moon Baby, Mr Onion and Colly Wobble from the hit children's TV series Moon and Me. A major investment, the fifty-episode Moon and Me is a series of gentle stories about a family of comical toy friends living in a Toy House, and the adventures they all share with a magical visitor, Moon Baby. Meanwhile one person added: “The clown? He's called Colly Wobble. Pretty sure his side job is harvesting organs.”
