He’s only too happy to give Eurydice a special kind of education…but is her heart really free enough to be claimed?

Psyche didn't expect to find herself married to the glittering city's most dangerous killer, but something about Eros wakens a fire inside her she's never felt before. As lines blur and loyalties shift, Psyche realizes Eros might take her heart after all...and she's not sure she can survive the loss. The Neon God was so far successful in converting countless worlds into one connected city while the inhabitants either tried to flee or succumbed to it, leaving them as lifeless people who simply lived in the newly formed city. The SCP Foundation's Department of Interdimensional Logistics of the "main" universe became aware of the Neon God's existence after gaining the control of SCP-7005, but didn't act immediately as it would require millennia to reach their universe. Despite this, the Foundation still took in numerous refugees while attempting to study the nature of the Neon God. Neon Gods is a combination of territory control and resource management that manages a lot through combining these two board game systems. My play group took to calling it “ Tyrants of the Underdark (Neon) Lite” as an homage to another great game that tries to do similar things, although the tone in Neon Gods sets it apart. You take command of a street gang as they fight for turf, recruit new members, build up their defenses, and push drugs "product." On one condition: when it’s all over, and Apollo has what he needs to protect Olympus, she and her sister will be allowed to leave. For good.

As I said in the content warnings there is exhibitionism and BDSM included in this book. So please this is another warning before you jump in. I really enjoyed how this was intertwined into the book and it didn’t feel out of place at all. Not only did it explore the relationship between Hades and Persephone more, but it also introduced some very interesting characters. And I’m intrigued by this and looking forward to seeing where it’s taken in the future. From the start, the reader is able to feel and see the spark between the two – even before they admit it. And what starts off as a fake relationship turns into something much more. I just couldn’t deal with these two, at all. I adored them. Society darling Persephone Dimitriou plans to flee the ultra-modern city of Olympus and start over, but her plans are ripped away when her mother ambushes her with an engagement to Zeus. The thing that took me by surprise the most in this book were the incredibly sweet moments between Hades and Persephone. It’s a known fact that Robert can bring the steam (you have not lived until you’ve read the A Touch of Taboo series) and there’s plenty of steamy and kinky scenes in Neon Gods. However, there are also the most heartwarming displays of affection which are all the more endearing because they come from Hades, who’s got this rep as total grump and yes, he totally has his grumpy moments, but I just could not handle this man’s kindness—the heartfelt moments he shares with Persephone and the secret things he does to help his people ruined me.Eurydice Dimitriou has always been the innocent sister, but she's finally ready to step out of the long shadow cast by her powerful family...and the ex who shattered her heart. Perhaps rough hands on soft skin are exactly what she needs to forget her heartbreak once and for all? The Neon God was originally envisioned as another Proposal for SCP-001 titled "The Neon God They Made", but the author Tufto was unsatisfied with it as he described it as a simple horror story and deleted it. He eventually rewrote the concept of the original Proposal into the Scarlet King, while in SCP-7005 he expanded on the Neon God by making the story about, existentialism, finding and giving yourself a meaning in the face of desperation.

With no options left, Persephone flees to the forbidden undercity and makes a devil’s bargain with a man she once believed a myth… a man who awakens her to a world she never knew existed. Since the Neon God can be considered as representing the lifeless modern way of life, it is possible that it is the modernity the Scarlet King is fighting. I love a retelling of Hades and Persephone. I’ve read quite a few, and I wasn’t quite ready to return to YA Fantasy or NA Fantasy books quite yet. So, I decided to read Neon Gods by Katee Robert. This book tells the tale of Hades and Persephone with a modern lens where they are not gods or goddesses, but rather the name is a title. This book is the first book in the Dark Olympus universe. Each book focuses on different characters in the world with the next book focusing on Psyche and Eros. Perhaps rough hands on soft skin are exactly what she needs to forget her heartbreak once and for all? As I mentioned in the intro, Neon Gods is a modern retelling. Instead of their being gods and goddesses, the characters are human. The names Demeter, Hades, Zeus, Hera, Ares, Hermes, etc. of the big thirteen gods that rule Olympus are titles. They have similar roles to Greek mythology but ultimately they are just jobs/positions. The only legacy roles that go from father to son are those of Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades. The rest of the characters and their family relationships are quite different. In this version, Persephone has three sisters: Psyche, Callisto, and Eurydice (who is dating Orpheus for the majority of the book like in Greek mythology). Though they are not sisters in real Greek Mythology. We did it. Our hubris. Our desire for connection, for purpose, for more and more and more, for the destruction of countless universes in the name of one single reality, individuals living whole lives on our line with no connection to land and time. We did this. We wanted a unity of all things, and we got one - a unity buried under a city of the night. There's nowhere more dangerous than Olympus...and no one more captivating than its golden god: Apollo. Keeper of secrets, master of his shining realm...and the only man I am powerless to deny. Until Athena sends her after Calypso, the mistress of the rich politician Odysseus. Calypso is beautiful and cunning and she’ll do anything to keep her life—including seducing her would-be assassin. I am really excellent at submission. I’m equally excellent at communicating what I want when I want it. It’s called being adaptable.”

On one condition: when it's all over, and Apollo has the ammunition he needs to protect Olympus, she and her sister will be allowed to leave. For good. The Neon God is a living idea created from the concept of the city and the desire to feel connected, similar to how the Scarlet King was created from humanity's dissatisfaction with the modern world. The Neon God was capable of transforming any land it came across into parts of one endless city. Upon being done with consuming its original world, the Neon God used SCP-7005 to expand its influence to the wider multiverse. This process started with the manifestations of random structures in small populated areas such as poor villages which would eventually transform into large buildings with neon lights and connected cables while being separated with different types of roads. I was fully immersed in the world from the start of Neon Gods and I didn’t want to leave. It was pretty epic and I loved the combination of the traditional elements of Greek Mythology while also still being very modern.Hades finally smiles and, good gods, it’s like being hit by a laser beam. Heat strong enough to make my fingertips tingle and curl my toes. I stare up at him, caught in the intensity of those dark eyes. And then he’s shaking his head, smothering the rush of strangeness through my body. “No.” “What do you mean, no?” “I’m aware that you’ve likely not heard the word often in your privileged life, so I’ll spell it out for you. No. Nein. Nyet. Non. Absolutely not.” Eurydice Dimitriou has always been the innocent sister, but she’s finally ready to step out of the long shadow cast by her powerful family…and the ex who shattered her heart. Eros has no problem getting his hands dirty. But when it comes time to take out his latest target, he can’t do it.
