About this deal

Though there are times I’d prefer the option for a shallower depth of field for people photography, I nevertheless enjoy the no-brainer ease of just shooting wide open at F4. For me that is usually candid family photography. @ 57mm @ 100mm (All images at ISO 200-800 except this one at 3200) The edges and corners are, as you can probably guess, are weaker. They're strongest in the mid-range of the lens (marked 25-50mm), and what I'd call very good. Almost excellent. Curiously, the lens seems weakest in the corners at 100mm wide open at f/4, followed by 12mm at f/8 (the lens is a bit better at 12mm than 100mm at the larger apertures). But, you know, when I fully zoomed in the lens at 100mm, the image quality was crisp, and I was surprised to see that. You can see the results for yourself. already own or plan on buying a second standard zoom such as the Lumix 35-100mm f/2.8 or M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/2.8 The 12-100mm, like its other Pro predecessors, is splashproof, dustproof, and freezeproof down to 14°F (-10°C). However, it is not completely waterproof. It is relatively on the heavier side and is certainly larger than its competitor lenses. Some Other Features

Hmm... here's an interesting comparison. From smallest to largest (excluding the 12-100), it's the Oly 12-45 f4 Pro, Pana Lumix 12-60 f3.5-5.6, Oly 12-40 Pro, and Pana Leica 12-60 f2.8-4. https://camerasize.com/compact/#835.852,835.569,835.412,835.625,ha,t I've used my 12-100 with the pixel shift High Res mode. Realistically, the resulting high res image is eqivalent to something that would come out of a ~40mp sensor. As you can see from this 100% crop from a JPEG captured with default settings, even at 100mm, this is one very sharp lens! The filter thread of the 12-100mm is a little bigger than that of the 12-40mm, and with a minimum focus distance of 15cm at the widest angle, it is capable of focusing 5cm closer than the 12-40mm. Regarding the zoom ring, I found it to have a good amount of resistance. You won't accidentally move it, but it doesn't take excessive effort to rotate either. You can go from 12mm to 100mm in less than a one-quarter turn and the ring is marked at 12, 18, 25, 35, 50, 70 and 100mm focal lengths. The focal lengths are marked in white on silver, which can be somewhat difficult to see in certain lighting conditions due to reflections. The 14-150 II is very light in comparison and slow at the long end. Center sharpness is always fine, edges are weaker - but not really bad. So, as an outdoor do-everything-under-every-condition lens, I'm inclined to think that the extra 50mm(/100mm) reach and reduced size/weight with the 14-150 will be far more useful than the additional sharpness and aperture of the 12-100. I guess I need convincing that the Sync-IS on the E-M5ii is made of awesome and that the extra length and weight really aren't an issue! Murraya is a member of the citrus family and the resemblance can easily be seen in its sweet smelling flowers, delicate white flowers, and glossy dark green leaves.

And as was mentioned, the extra 20mm out to 60, makes it a good GP lens. While I have the 12-40, I often feel that I don't have enough reach with the 40mm end, so I find myself grabbing the P-Lumix 12-60 more than the 12-40. Weather sealed, excellent build quality, amazing IS, good aperture speed, excellent focal lengths, conservative filter size (72mm), comfortable weight and size, great close focus…what else does someone need? Honestly, this lens is a winner. I haven’t bought my own copy yet though. I rented this one for a while. I just love the 12-40, and usually I don’t need more than that. The size of the 12-40 is perfect in my opinion. I might have had a different opinion if this was a 12-100 F/2.8 of the same size. I also much prefer the close focus ability of the 12-40 better as well. I just felt the working distance and magnification fared better on my typical subjects.Being a senior citizen with a few injuries, kit weight is an issue for me that it isn't for you youngsters.
