It’s a bit more expensive, but the Zoom does feature four-channel recording and can be used as a four-in/two-out USB audio interface. At nearly 300g, it weighs a lot more than the Olympus, though. It also requires two batteries rather than one. We tested the LS-P1 with a mixture of speech and music sound sources, and found that selecting a Manual recording level and using the Limiter gave the best results. Automatic recording resulted in some clipping and distortion when recording music. Thank you. I'll definitely consider the Zoom products for the future. I bought the LS-P4 because I need to start with something very portable and light in weight, so I can bring it with me without an external mic, and carry it to work in my briefcase. It is also easy to use in the hand to record radio broadcasts. The elephant in the room is Apple's lightning connector. European regulators are putting pressure on Apple to ditch its Lightning connector in favour of a universal standard such as USB-C. If they are successful, then the MV88 may be forced into early obsolescence.
Used as a shotgun mic on the camera hot shoe, the LS-P1 works well. The microphones sit above the front of the camera body, rather than above the lens, so won’t be too close to the speaker when used handheld for vlogging. The recording unit is 11x4x1.5cm and weighs only 75grams with the supplied ‘AAA’ rechargeable battery inserted. I've received m LS-P4, and here are the settings I'm thinking of using with the ME66/K6 mic I'm going to receive this week:
