About this deal

Underwater macro lets you get very close to your subject. Olympus TOUGH TG-6, at 100mm 1/100 sec. at f/14, ISO 250. Image credit: Kirk Schwarz. When you consider all that, you can forgive it for not giving you super-impressive images in every single condition. That’s not to say images are poor – on the whole, they’re vibrant and punchy with a decent amount of detail.

this made sense , the nifty 50s of those film days were good, fast, small, and cheap ... i fell in love with the helicoid action of machined brass focus mechanisms then. Also, go wider on the short end, say 20 or 21mm eq., and also shorter on the long end, say 40-50mm eq. Then you will have a useful watersports camera (with 1" sensor, of course). The metering had a tendency to overexpose shots – easily solved with the EV compensation. Olympus TOUGH TG-6 at 67mm 1/160 sec. at f/5, ISO 100. Image credit: Kirk Schwarz. For example, when shooting from as close as 1 cm to the subject, a 1 mm subject can be magnified to up to 44 mm on the monitor.

The in-camera flash offers a significant increase in the amount of light. This increase in light allows for usage of lower ISO settings and faster shutter speeds, as well as an increased working distance. The FD-1 can also be utilized under water. The camera's closest focusing distance to the subject is 2cm. Why you can trust Digital Camera World Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out how we test. Of course, the main reason for buying this little gem is its build quality, and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. I was pretty rough with it during my first month of testing and it came out top-notch in every test I gave it. Kawika Nui, you can still crop your photos on your computer or even on a smartphone after importing, so what's the deal about the "sensor crop" you would like to have? For ther image quality, there is hardly a difference between cropping in the camera and doing so by hand on Mac/PC/mobile device. The advantage of cropping in "post pro", though, is that you can crop RAW, which, by design, won't work in the camera.

I’m mostly a still photographer, so I just tried out the most basic of video features. Nothing was better than my smartphone, but since I was using the TG-6 in situations where I didn’t want to risk my smartphone, it was a fair trade-off. The number of shots and the length of time the camera waits before shooting starts can be selected. Here you’re looking at the main difference between the TOUGH TG-6 and the model it replaces. The TG5’s 460k dot LCD monitor has been upgraded on the TG-6 to a higher resolution 1040k dot panel. The difference is noticeable, with more detail visible, but it’s still quite difficult to see in sunny conditions, especially if the camera is submerged and you’re not. Having said that, it’s a lot easier to see than the screen on the Fujifilm Finepix XP140. At first, I thought it was a problem that there was no shutter speed mode on the TG-6. But then I realized that it wasn’t really necessary. You just have to know how to work around it.I'm a year round sea swimmer 🏊‍♀️, occasional snorkeling and kayaking. Rx100 mk1 in a case works fine for the snorkeling and kayaking. But for the sea swimming I'd really prefer to have something that fits inside my swimsuit. A tg6 type with a 1" sensor would fill all my needs if executed as well as the Sony, in the meantime I'll be treating myself to a gopro 9 or similar as my son can borow that for surfing as well and the selfie screen on gopro 9 types works well for a lot of situations in surfing or swimming. Granted, the inclusion of such a feature might introduce a point of vulnerability, but it would perhaps be possible to include a small rounded selfie mirror on the camera's front itself instead; it's perhaps something for the designers of the next generation to consider. You’ve already learned that new gear is not the answer to this depressing dry period you’re going through. But that’s because most gear is the wrong gear for you.
