About this deal

The setting is wonderful as well it’s like a British girls idealised version of America, long summer days, handsome strangers, country farms and fire flies at night. This is going to be totally massive, because it has everything: family, love, secrets, sexy descriptions of brooding, hot men... just sublime' Laura Jane Williams

Paige Toon's writing is emotional and riveting. Even while her novel was breaking my heart into tiny pieces, I couldn't put it down' Jill Santopolo Paige writes sweeping, emotional love stories - filled with characters you'll never forget and incredible settings - that take you on a unique journey. Nobody writes angst and joy and hope like Paige Toon.”—CHRISTINA LAUREN, author of LOVE AND OTHER WORDS Synopsis: Needing a fresh start and a place to heal her broken heart, Wren decides to visit her dad and stepmom on their farm in Indiana. There, she crosses paths with Anders, the son of the family who lives next door and the two begin a special friendship. As feelings start to emerge, Wren is hesitant to move forward as she’s been left behind one too many times while Anders is harboring a secret and afraid to get too close to dealing with his past. After seeing each other in a bar, Wren and Anders have their first conversation in a cornfield. It is the first conversation, but it will not be the last. There will be many in fact but with all the talking, there is a very important bit of information that is left out....

Only Love Can Hurt Like This by Paige Toon | Waterstones

Wren and her dad - and stepfamily- are a sore subject at the start of this book. There’s pain, heartache and some resentment, all for good reasons. It’s heartwarming to see the ice melt away in these relationships and forge new memories and bonds. The book is about growing, facing your (albeit painful) past, and the hope for a better future. From here, the relationship just grows and it’s endearing and heartwarming. I have loved the journey as the relationship has grown and developed. This is one that has been a wonderful rollercoaster of adventures. Wren is devastated when she finds out her fiancé is in love with someone else, so she decides to travel across the Atlantic with the hopes that spending the summer with her dad, stepmom and half sister will help her heal her broken heart. While staying on their farm in Indiana, she meets Anders who lost his wife four years ago and is struggling to move on. I instantly endeared to Wren and loved how she dealt with her heartbreak at the beginning of the story. Visiting her dad and stepmother in Indiana initiates a new emotional journey for her, both romantically and familial, rediscovering her step-sister Bailey (whose character I adored!) and her father who she believed never loved her enough. We are transported to rural Indiana, where Wren has gone to heal from her heartbreak. Staying with her dad, step - mother and half - sister, brings it’s own challenges.
