Palate: Oak-y smoke and salty sea air, paired with sweeter notes of Custard Cream biscuits and white grape.Immediately lies on the tongue with an extremely dry spice. Peat smoke note with smoked ham and pepper. Dried wild herbs, lemon and lime peel zest, some grapefruit. Almond chips and hazelnut pieces compete with each other, marzipan and nougat. On the tongue, too, a note of warm asphalt slowly spreads, so that the taste is a fairly congruent continuation of the nose. This full bodied, heavily peated single malt from the Bruichladdich distillery is a vatting of two unique parcels of whisky. A 28 year old single malt from the Bruichladdich Distillery, bottled up by those That Boutique-y Whisky Company folks! The label has all sorts of hints to a gamut of bottlings from Bruichladdich's history, so any Bruichladdich boffin out there will be excited about this one...It’s not aggressive, it’s not weak, it’s just well balanced and damn good. Though, to be honest, I’ve never met a PC10 I didn’t like. It may shift and change a bit from one release to the next, but it’s always a solid, tasty, Islay Scotch that covers an array of notes to cover an array of preferences. From fruity to coastal Port Charlotte 10 Years is just plain pleasant. Tasty and tasty. Very balanced, not too dominant smoke. The alcohol is in my opinion very well involved, so I do not need water here. It was built to serve the expanding population of the villages on the Rhinns. Begun with the laying of the foundation stone in 1898, it was completed a year later. St Kiaran’s became the Parish Church in 1977 when Kilchoman Church was closed due to the depopulation of the area it had served. It has an interesting interior with a Norman arch separating the nave and chancel, a curved wall with two small stained glass windows, and some attractive wall hangings. More info here

Port Charlotte Heavily Peated Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Produced at the Bruichladdich Distillery and was the first distillation made on 29 th May 2001 under the new independent owners and made to a heavier peat specification of around 40ppm (in honour of the style made at the long closed original Port Charlotte distillery on Islay) Bottled as the highly collectable PC series as well as the easier to find Port Charlotte 10 year old, Scottish and Islay barley editions and some of the independent bottles represent good value. Got some great news yesterday… Eldest daughters’ partner proposed while on hols over in South Australia… on the stroke of midnight… I need to celebrate with with something nice …. As Simon Coughlin, CEO of International Single Malt Whisky at Remy Cointreau states, Bruichladdich gives a huge emphasis on being from Islay. From people working at the distillery to the barley used, you can easily see how important being from Islay is. When the new bottle was first introduced to the market, I had the chance of getting one and enjoyed every moment with it. This year's batch offers a well-balanced profile of malt sweetness, spicy notes and of course the famous peat. Peat is not overwhelming and it doesn't overpower any other flavors. This is a very important thing for me when it comes to peaty whiskies. Does it overpower, does it cover any character, any flavors? Bruichladdich's Fèis Ìle 2013 festival bottling was a tribute to Jim McEwan's impressive “50 years of whisky creation”. A vatting of various selected vintages, just 700 bottles were released.
