The By.schulz G.2 is a very highly-rated seatpost. There is a short-travel version with 30mm, and a long-travel version with 50mm of suspension.

The RedShift Dual-Position Seatpost is unique because it allows the rider to change the fore and aft saddle position while riding, with the goal being to give an optimal position when riding on either the drop bars or the aerobars. Dropper seatposts allow mountain bikers to raise and lower their saddles for different types of terrain and have become very common over the past few years. Could a similar thing happen for ultra-distance cyclists using something like the RedShift seatpost? The post only comes in a 27.2 mm diameter, which is relatively common and there are shims available to make it fit in nearly all frames that use a round seatpost, but unfortunately many modern road frames use proprietary seatpost designs where this wouldn’t work. The saddle clamp is only recommended for saddles with round rails (most carbon saddle rails are oval). If you ride a decent percentage on smoother surfaces or are sensitive to suspension bob, you will prefer elastomer seatposts as they’re less noticeable underneath you. In addition to requiring a few more minutes to install and make fit adjustments, owners need to remove the post and clean between the leaf springs several times a season, especially if riding in wet and muddy conditions. My bike has a 25.4mm seatpost. Do you have a shim for that size? The short answer is no. Both of our seatposts are only available in 27.2mm diameter. Since that is larger than 25.4mm, it is not possible to use a shim to adapt the seatpost to your frame.

I have a proprietary Giant seatpost on my gravel bike, so unfortunately the Redshift post won’t work there 🙁 Regular dropper seatposts have very little vertical flex, which is an unfortunate consequence of their telescoping design.Redshift suggests that riders up to 80kg should only use the main spring and those from 90kg to 110kg must install the inner spring as well. With the main spring fitted, my unit weighed 538g. You may need to loosen the straps slightly to accommodate the movement that occurs between road and aero positions. If your saddle bag uses rigid clips, clamps, or some other inflexible attachment method, it's possible that your bag may not be compatible. Best method: Use a pair of calipers to directly measure the diameter or take your bike to the local bike shop and they will be able to measure it for you. Its simple, unobtrusive performance impressed me enough that I mounted the CF Allroad Pro Seatpost to my Unbound race bike.

I have one. It’s the best suspension seatpost I’ve used to date (I’ve no experience with the Kinekt, but have had Cane Creek Thudbuster LTs on 3 or 4 of My bikes, 2 Thudbuster STs (still have one); a by.Schultz LT 2.0; ridden a SunTour on girlfriend’s bike and cheap rubbish PostModern as a novice rider over 20 years ago). Below are My observations: Ergon’s one-size-fits-most approach is simpler, with fewer moving parts, and is significantly lighter than its rivals. Since ultra-distance bike races have no such rules, why wouldn’t ultra-distance cyclists want to have a seatpost that puts the saddle as far forward as possible all the time? The reason is that ultra-distance road cyclists tend to use drop handlebars with aerobars mounted to them and frequently switch between the positions.Deflection is the total movement that a seatpost will move after an impact. A seatpost with more deflection will reduce the fatigue on your body as it protects you from harder jolts like unexpected potholes or dirt road corrugations. It’ll also allow you to keep pedalling through particularly bumpy terrain. Its two-bolt saddle clamp remains level atop a parallelogram linkage pivoting on dry-lube bushings. When weight is added to the post a link compresses the internal spring(s), creating user-adjustable sag, which Redshift recommends should be around 20 per cent of the 35mm total travel. Elastomer springs are the quiet achievers as they are much less noticeable underneath you. This is the result of elastomers having an inherently slower rebound speed after an impact, which is particularly beneficial while riding on fast, bumpy surfaces like gravel roads. When I got the pre-load right for off-road terrain, I found there was more bob than I’d like on the road. Unfortunately, the pre-load bolt is not particularly accessible as it’s at the bottom of the seatpost, so it’s not an adjustment that you’d want to make too regularly. For my riding style, I’d love to be able to slide the saddle forward just a couple millimeters more than I can with the current seat head. For most riders, this won’t be an issue, but I prefer a more forward saddle position. Saddle choice can help here, but ideally the seat head would allow for more forward adjustment. The Verdict… for now
