No matter what I tried, it always came down to painstakingly applying thin layer after thin layer to build up the opacity and it still wouldn’t look great anyway. Thankfully, metallic paints have come on a long way and Retributor Armour is one of the best of the bunch. It covers remarkably well and gives a bright, yellowish gold that is really versatile. The tusks I basecoated Rakarth Flesh, shaded the base with Agrax Earthshade, then painted stripes of Seraphim Sepia, Pallid Wych Flesh and Screaming Skull working towards the tip. Iron Warriors’ most standout feature is their hazard striping, which really sets them apart from other legions. Do you paint a lot of gold in your miniatures? Thanks for all of the responses! I've got a few test models set aside, so I'll be testing out many of these. Finally… I say finally, there’s still a lot of work on them now, as they’ve got a lot of small parts that I haven’t done yet, so start to finish, here’s how I did each section. RetributorNext I worked on a few different aspects. The first was the gold armour. I’m not sure why, but I love painting the Stormcast armour, and it’s one of the reasons I’ve been doing a air few of them over the past few months. It seems like there’s a lot of smooth surface to do some nice lighting, but enough detail to keep them interesting. Possibly my favourite miniature for painting at the moment. Retributor Armour: Best Gold Metallic Paint? [Review]

In step 2 above switch the Vallejo metal color gold and Vallejo metal color copper mixture to Scale 75 dwarven gold. I have had problems with both auric and liberator, they are both usable but my advice is to experiment with them as just looking at the paint forms reflect how it looks dry. I have some characters in my 30k Ultramarines army that I intend to do mainly in Gold. These will be the Praetor and the Company Command Squad (basically the Praetor's Honor Guard). Zatu has an excellent range of games and for most of them the best prices too. Delivery is always fast and I have never received a game in bad condition. 10/10 would recommend. After enjoying the time savings from spraying my first batch of 40k terrain with Citadel’s Wraithbone rattle can — a primer and base coat in one — I decided to go the same route with my custard lads. They’re 90% gold; this is a potentially huge time savings.

You can either mix the paint and thinner together outside of the airbrush reservoir, or within the airbrush (not recommended). In either case, make sure you’ve got the solution mixed well. Crag – I used Fuegan Orange shade, then a tiny bit of Carroburg Crimson to the edges of the crags. I then used a very thin brush to add some white to the central areas of the crags. This was to give the impression that the more open areas were white hot, while the edges were cooler. Start highlighting the majority of the armour in Citadel Mournfang Brown. This is where the process becomes a bit repetitive and this step is the most time consuming because you’re painting most of the model but being careful about leaving the previous stage showing at the bottom parts of the armour panel. The thinner is mixed about 1:10 (more gold metallic paint to less thinner). It doesn’t take much to thin the Retributor Armour paint. Make sure you shake your pot before you mix it with any thinners. The metallic flakes do tend to settle if the pot is left sitting around for a while. Do you like gold? The Adeptus Custodes are the Emperor’s personal bodyguard and his greatest warriors. Each Custodian is a demigod in golden armor, wielding the Imperium’s most finely-wrought weapons, surpassing even the Space Marines in martial prowess and tactical acumen.
