I connected the pump and switched on.. the gauge pressure shot up.. but no air was going into the tyre.. Puzzled, I had a look and found that there was no pin in the inflator connector to open the tyre valve.. so air could never go in.. Accurate to 0.05 BAR, this Michelin air compressor tyre pump is very useful, coming complete with an LED lamp, accessory adaptors, and a USB port for charging your smartphone. The air cords are a generous 60cm in length, and the screw-on tips are of highly durable brass construction. While on the aire at Gravelines, a motorcyclist came over from the road and asked if I could help with a tyre inflator.. his rear tyre was soft.. The 2.4m length of the battery connection cables, plus the 7-metre (extended) length of the air-line, should allow any of wheels of most motorhomes to be reached if (as Keithl has mentioned above) the pump is connected to a Ducato’s engine-compartment ‘jump start’ points. Ensuring the tyres on both your car and your caravan are at the right pressure before heading off on tour won’t only keep you safe – it could also help save you money. Some reports estimate that if your tyre pressures are even just a little bit too low, your fuel economy could be up to 10% worse.

Downside is cost (though I think it's very reasonable for the quality on offer) and bulk - it comes in a bag the size of a rugby ball. In testing, our team also realised that they preferred screw-on style couplings between the air hose and the tyre valve, as they are easier to use than other types and more foolproof, too.

Ring Automotive RAC900 Professional High Power Air Compressor

Unfortunately, the Screwfix master plug is as stated a 10A rated item, whereas the Ring RAC 900 the OP has is rated at 30 Amps, massively higher. It would be difficult to remove dirt from inside the connectors, so keep dirt out of them. Once inside it may prevent them sealing when coupled. This is one of thearguments againstthis device. Connecting The Air Compressor RAC900 To The Car Battery To Give It Power Once connected, the LCD screen indicated the PSI on my Citroen C1’s front right tyre in a matter of seconds. Target adjustment was another painless process as only the middle dial needed to be turned for me to reach my desired PSI target. If you’ve ever owned a portable tyre inflator, you may not have known what brand it was but there’s a fair chance it was a model from Ring Automotive. The brand has a well-cemented reputation as a reliable automotive aftermarket choice for car tyre car, battery care, and lighting.

The mini test pitched the Ring RAC900 Air Compressor against a newly released product, and assessed both on inflation rate, hose and lead length, as well as the accessories that come with each. The Ring RAC900 performed well across the board, being named “a great little machine”. During inflation, “Ring has the edge”, adding 3PSI more per minute to the tyre compared to the competition. The analogue gauge was “more accurate”, the air release valve was noted, as was the fact that “everything goes together via quality brass fittings”. As I’ve said here in the past, I have a T-Max pump that’s conceptually similar to the RAC900. When used at home I power it from a ‘slave’ 12V battery (because this is convenient and I have a couple of spare batteries) and I store the pump in a handy niche under my motorhome’s bed. If I had to use the pump away from home I’d either power it from the jump-start points or from the leisure battery . The underlying concept is good advice, but I would use a pair of Anderson, standard grey SB50 connectors, and include an adequately rated fuse close to the positive battery pole.Free Delivery is not available for Over-Sized parcels, such as Exhausts, Radiators & Headlamps - For details on these items please see the 'Oversized Items' section below. They said it was not up to the job and if I used the RAC 900 on these tyres it would not be covered by the warranty. The Ring RAC900 is a heavy-duty, high-powered inflator. Used by leading UK breakdown professionals, this has all the power you need from a robust inflator. Save money and stay safe I’ve always noticed that pressure gauges attached to pumps give incorrect readings. I suspect the dynamic pressure in the pipe from the pump is greater than the static pressure in the tyre.

In using them, we could also determine if their power leads and air hoses were long enough – longer ones make the units easier to position and cordless ones are even better. We also found that the screw-on style couplings were the best and easiest to use. Just came across this entry - been away in van -. I have had 2 compressors in the past and finally they gave up the ghost. I went to Halfords to buy another nbut the assistant told me that although it wouldf take my tyres up to 80psi I would have to deflate them to about 40psi to take the start up pressure off the compressor as there was a risk of burning it out if this wasn't done. C– Diameter 2mm, Length 32mm, open ended with 1mm Hole 5mm from end. Inflate balls with this adapter. Use it to set your target pressure and the compressor will do the rest, cutting out when it reaches its target to prevent over inflation. Complete with an integrated LED light for extra safety and ease of use, this model also comes with a two-piece adaptor set for your inflatable accessories.Your tyre inflator will either feature an old-fashioned gauge display or a digital one. Digital air compressors give a clear, easy-to-read format, whereas gauges can be disrupted by the compressor and tend to move about quite a bit when it’s in use.

This one looks the business but I am concerned that it may be too technical for us in that it needs to be connected directly onto the battery. Is this a relatively easy thing to do? (Can I connect the terminals to my leisure battery without disconnecting the motorhome terminals?) So my “slave battery “ option is not unreasonable, but has payload issues, if you have payload issues with your van. Suitable for motorhomes, trailers and 4x4s, it makes a great option for multi-vehicle households and could save you quite a bit of money in fuel consumption over the years. It also comes in a handy carry bag and various valve adaptors, making it easy to transfer from one vehicle to another.

It may sound obvious, but having your engine running whilst using the electric pump helps reduce inflation times greatly. The power consumption of the RAC900 is 280 Watts. That’s equivalent to 5 car headlamp bulbs of 55 Watts each. This is much more than a cigar lighter which is often 180Watts. And it’s continuous throughout the time you’re pumping the tyre.
