About this deal

The PCB edge is very close to the points where the knives are inserted to open the casing, so be careful not too push them in too far as the board could be easily damaged. Thanks for taking the time to look. Unfortunately the source button doesn't do anything from the RM-F01, when used with the code 108 but it does light up the audio button, so a signal is being sent. The other two codes do nothing from the sources button. Thanks very much for the information. I too used brute; case is rough round the edges, so sandpaper next! Opened case, washed rubber membrane in soapy water, dried it, reassembled and now works fine. Thanks again.... all in less than 10 minutes!!

I inserted the tip of the small blade of a Swiss Army Knife into the seam that runs all around the remote 3mm from the top. I started about 90mm from the IR transmitter (between two lugs) and gently eased along the seam towards the middle of the remote, pushing out the side slightly and levering up the top, until the first lug popped out of its slot halfway along. I then carried on with this technique until all 14 lugs were popped. I found it easier to pop the end lugs after all the side lugs were freed. None broke and very little force was needed. The lugs are symmetrical each side and are positioned as follows starting from the IR end (top): 20mm, 65mm, 115mm (centre), 165mm and 210mm - each measurement to approximately the centre of the lug. There are two lugs on the bottom 15mm from each corner and two at the IR end 10mm from each corner. When handling the PCB be careful not to touch the board printed circuit or the on board chip with bare fingers as I would be a bit concerned that ones body static may damage the chip. I am not sure how static tolerant chips are these days; it used to be a problem some years ago, where static could destroy electronic chips. Of course if one earth’s themselves, (I do it by touching the bare steel frame of my PC that happens to have the cover off), then there is no problem. One man's seldom-use buttons can be another man's essential buttons. The RM-109U can not pause the HD(R) Fox T2. It also cannot pause a DTR-T1010.

I used cotton buds and methylated spirit to clean the printed circuit board. Ensure the chrome ring is reset correctly at NSEW positions and that the battery springs are in the right place.

Your typical remote uses plastic clips molded into the body to hold the top and bottom halves together. Sometimes, you might need to push in either the top or bottom edge along the seam to help pop the clips apart. The RM-109U also controls the HD(R) Fox T2 but has a few seldom-used buttons missing and only controls the HDR and TV using the MDB1.3_01 code library. Thank you, gave me the confidence to get it open. Cleaned board with pcb cleaner, reassembled, good as new. Bingo Barry many thanks, comes in very handy as I have 2 variants of remotes so i saved then for the future, many thx.Press and hold the 0 and OK buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds until the PVR button on the remote stays red. Find yourself a small very thin penknife blade (I used a Swiss Army Knife one - the smallest blade) I would think it maybe (other than your son is an Einstein or a setting change) that maybe "Einstein" or some one else has allowed liquid to get into the remote and short out some connections changing how the buttons are interpreted by the logic circuits. Brilliant, thanks. My OK button was playing-up but after opening the Remote (following your instructions) and cleaning it, all is OK now. Twenty odd Pounds saved on a replacement Remote. Brilliant post! I never would have thought of washing the rubber off, but I can confirm it works and works well

Have a problem with your product and don't know what's wrong? Fear not, we're here to help. Get in touch by: I've opened and cleaned my one many times but as most of the wee retaining clips have long since snapped off, I've decided to replace it. Once you get these two open, the rest are relatively plain sailing. They are ALL the same, all the way round; even at the ends. Pressure on the top plate inside the gap releases them. The bottom compartment is over them. I first removed the batteries for safety. The top and bottom are totally separate (no wires) when they come apart. There were no screws holding this remote together This is a fully compatible replacement remote control and performs all fixed functions of the original remote (excluding reprogrammable buttons)From initial setup, updating to the latest software or frequently asked questions, follow these links to help you get sorted with your product: I was very pleased when I first took it apart, washed the rubber and successfully re-assembled it. The remote worked as well as it had when it was new. However, after a few months it was working poorly again.
