This book is about Mr. Gregg and his family. They hunt for pleasure. The Girl, our narrator, forbids them but they don't listen. And by accident, her finger magically turns them into the bird.

yes, he is the mind behind Matilda, and The BFG, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and a soldier memoir that launched me on a dad-like lifelong mild interest in World War II, and the criminally underrated Fantastic Mr. Fox, but he also wrote this, a moral/didactic misfire that is also boring. I love Dahl. Dahl seems to be sending a message that he doesn’t condone the shooting and hunting of animals for no good reason.
