About this deal

Its high performance capabilities are likely down to its exceptional power. It has a 62cc, 3.5HP 2-stroke petrol engine. Again, this puts it right up there with many of the higher-end and pricier models, such as the Hyundai that I also tested. To start with, I took the panel from the side of the chainsaw off by unwinding the plastic screw. It’s pretty tight, but that’s not a bad thing – you won’t need to worry about the cover falling off! I found this chainsaw to be extremely easy to use for a couple of reasons. Firstly – its weight. At around 3.5kg , even with the battery in, this chainsaw is exceptionally light, which makes it so convenient to manoeuvre. I was able to climb into huge piles of debris and use the chainsaw in very awkward angles, which allowed me to get the job done so much faster.

I was impressed with its charging time – it only took about an hour, which is on par with the Makita batteries that I also tested. All of the other cordless chainsaw batteries I used took much longer to charge. Assembling this chainsaw was very simple. Einhell provides all of the tools that you’ll need for assembly, meaning that the process only took about ten minutes, plus an extra few minutes to fill the machine with oil and petrol. However, petrol powered chainsaws are extremely powerful machines, and those with little experience may find a chainsaw with a long bar harder to control. Petrol bars do tend to have longer bars than corded or cordless types, with the length up to 40cm. Chain Speed

Automatic chain lubrication adjusts oil flow depending on the task you’re doing, although you can adjust this manually too if you’d prefer This is partly down to its small engine size. At 38.2cc, it’s almost half that of some of the other chainsaws that I reviewed. This shouldn’t be an issue for light, occasional work, but it isn’t quite powerful enough for heavy-duty tasks. Ryobi products are known for being relatively budget-friendly. They’re not the cheapest among competitors, but they’re also not the most expensive – they usually sit somewhere in the middle, and almost always offer fantastic value for money. Einhell is a brand that I know and love – I’ve used several of their power and garden tools before, including their electric scarifier, cordless leaf blower, and cordless chainsaw. However, no matter how good their cordless chainsaw was, I needed something a little more powerful to cope with the large trees that Storm Arwen had toppled around my farm, which is where the Einhell GC-PC 2040 came in. According to the brand, this chainsaw was made for hobby gardeners. The work that I had set out for it was a little more than “hobby”– it was a job that I would usually turn to one of my professional chainsaws for, but I had high hopes that this Einhell would be up to the task. This machine is also a great size. Its 30cm bar makes it very versatile, while the body itself is relatively compact. It’s easy to get a firm grip on the handles, and the minimal vibration makes things more comfortable.

Alina Jumabhoy has spent several years learning about, and experimenting with, different organic growing techniques at various gardens and farms around the country. Fuelled by her quest for self-sufficiency, she’s now putting that information to good use on her own rural farm. Machine Mart offer a range of petrol chainsaws, ideal for felling small trees, cutting logs for the fire, or for pruning jobs. We have more heavy duty models suitable for heavy duty domestic and light trade work. We also offer an electric chainsaws, that are lightweight and comfortable yet still able to cope with demanding jobs and a wide range of chainsaw chains and other accessories. This chainsaw comes in at a pretty low price, especially when you compare it to some of the other options out there. However, Einhell is known for producing quality tools at affordable prices, so a budget-friendly cost is expected from the brand. The fact that this chainsaw is more than capable of carrying out the majority of tasks needed by the average home user, coupled with its high-quality Oregon bar and chain, makes it great value for money. I managed to use it to cut up wood that was around 50cm in diameter. These were trunks that I previously used a petrol chainsaw for – although the Ryobi was a little slower, the end result was just as good. That said, don’t assume that this is a slow machine – its cutting speed is 10 m/s, which is faster than most of the other cordless chainsaws out there. The only faster one that I tested was the Makita.

Not familiar with the P1PE brand? Neither was I, until I tried their impressive 62cc Petrol Chainsaw. Turns out, P1PE, which is short for Position One Power Equipment, is well-acquainted with producing power tools and garden machinery, with all of them being powered by Hyundai engines. So, having recently tested out Hyundai’s 62cc petrol chainsaw, I was curious to see how this lower-priced alternative would compare. It’s aimed at people who need to carry out both small clearance jobs as well as heavy-duty tree felling, making it seem like the ideal machine to help me tidy up all of the damage that Storm Arwen had caused around my farm. Now onto the part that could potentially be a dealbreaker for many – the price. This was the most expensive of the five chainsaws that I tested, even though it was the smallest both in terms of bar size and engine power. It doesn’t come with any spare parts either, although a maintenance toolkit has been included. Instead, the higher cost is attributed to the quality of the parts used to produce this chainsaw, as well as the Husqvarna name. As mentioned, the tool-less chain tensioning is a big plus, although all of the six cordless chainsaws that I tested have been designed with this feature. Just like the others, this one also has a claw stop, as well as ergonomic handles to improve the user experience. He owns a 25-acre farm in Aberdeenshire with a focus on self-sufficiency, living off the land, and working with nature.

Chainsaw Range

The minimal assembly required for this chainsaw left me impressed right from the start. It only took about ten minutes in total to fit the bar and chain on, and then another few minutes to pour in fuel and oil. The fact that ParkerBrand has included a comprehensive tool kit with this machine makes the assembly process much faster. I found this chainsaw to be comfortable and easy to use. At 7kg, it is noticeably heavier than some of the others that I reviewed, but this is down to its large engine and long bar. If you’d prefer something lighter and easier on the arms, you’d need to sacrifice one of these. All garden furniture will be delivered kerbside unless otherwise stated. All other products will be delivered to your front door.
