About this deal

I really enjoy my job because I get to go out and do fun activities with the children and young people. I also help to arrange family days and events for the region to get everyone together and share new ideas for the running of the agency. To help preserve your sanity, she suggests joining one of the NATP’s Listening Circles where parents can seek advice and share their stories. This is the go-to guide for practitioners, parents and carers who want to expand their understanding and skills for therapeutic parenting – a deeply nurturing parenting style particularly effective for children who have experienced trauma or adversity. Why do they seem to focus on matters of peripheral importance when they should be concentrating on their lessons or simply on going to sleep?

Sarah Naish - Centre of Excellence in Child Trauma

In this episode, Sarah Dillon tells us why traumatized children run away or abscond from loving and caring foster and adoptive families. It’s about building up a positive parent-child relationship and reminding them that you’ll always be there for them. This week COECT’s CEO Sarah Naish talks from personal experience about the strain placed on a relationship when a couple adopts or fosters traumatized children. The Centre of Excellence in Child Trauma’s November 2021 conference attracted parents and professionals from around the country. You can find out more about COECT and the NATP’s training, listening circles and support here www.naotp.com Find out how to turn your iPhone into a white noise machine for babies, thanks to this new Apple feature Therapeutic Parenting differs from ‘Traditional Parenting’ in that it does not use time out/any form of corporal punishment, shame the child, use reward charts, or expect the child to self-regulate or feel empathy and remorse. Hughes’ words are echoed by Jefferies, who states that therapeutic parenting enables children ‘to self-regulate and develop an understanding of their behaviours and ultimately form secure attachments which will, ultimately, minimise the impact of childhood trauma.’ We strive to be a place where parents can come together to build relationships, gain knowledge and share experiences. Our goal is to create a community of support and understanding, raise awareness of compassion fatigue, and support parents who experience this, with the aim of helping our children reach their full potential.

Jessica recommends using Theraplay techniques for therapeutic games the whole family can play and enjoy) I qualified as a social worker in 2013 and I have been a child social worker working with children from the point of ICO to adoption/long-term fostering. I changed to become a Supervising Social Worker in 2018 as I wanted to support the foster parents as I recognised they are the ones who make the biggest impact on caring for children with trauma. I first learnt about DDP, PACE and therapeutic parenting in 2020 and I became passionate about this approach when I saw the positive impact it had. I leapt at the chance to join TRUE fostering in February 2023 as they imbed therapeutic parenting and support in their practice. A list of the top ten most commonly changed baby names in the US have been published and the results might surprise you It helps promote secure attachments and allows children to reflect on their thoughts and behaviours without being judged. I am very excited to be working for TRUE as I am keen to further develop my knowledge and skills in Therapeutic Parenting. What supports our children to heal and grow is a safe and healthy attachment bond with a care giver who offers them a safe base from where they can go and explore the world. We learn about the so-called honeymoon period and its aftermath, secondary trauma and compassion fatigue. They form a template that help you face up all the problems that come your way in a consistent, predictable and reliable way that ultimately help your child feel safe.

Sarah Naish – Therapeutic Parenting Expert Interview with Sarah Naish – Therapeutic Parenting Expert

We’ve had parents say to us that the children themselves, if they do have a very out-of-control moment when they become violent that it really impacts on their feelings of shame and hurt afterwards. So in a way, allowing the child to be violent is compounding some of the causes associated with their behaviour. Perhaps stopping their violent behaviour sooner – and in a smart and intelligent way – can really help with modelling different behaviours and helping the child to deal with those feelings.Today I want to introduce you to Sarah Naish, and let you in on some excerpts from a conversation that I had with her recently. Sarah is an author and an expert on therapeutic parenting. We’ve been working together for a while on developing and delivering a training course which teaches strategies for parents who are at home and have to deal with managing violent behaviour from their children. Both programmes have been written by Kim Golding, a Clinical Psychologist and Dyadic Developmental Practitioner (DDP network). I would also like to thank the parents who contribute every day to our Facebook group and give us all such great inspiration and ideas. I would particularly like to thank all the moderators and volunteers who help to empathetically support Therapeutic Parents in their journey through the NATP, and our workshops, training and online for all the wise words and encouragement they share so selflessly and voluntarily every day. Hi Everyone, my name is Helen, and I am the supervising social worker for the West Midlands region. This leads to all sorts of complicated and unexpected behaviour patterns at any time, but particularly during family celebrations.
