At this price point, it’s clear Sennheiser isn’t trying to directly compete with the more affordable wireless alternatives, nor the industry-level professional in-ear monitoring solutions used by performing musicians and other artists.

And typical of a high-end earphone, the earpieces are plastic. It’s plastic inlaid with sparkly bits – but the average AirPod wearer would probably guess you’re wearing a set from years ago. Sennheiser IE 300 sound quality – Out for your attention Sennheiser is one of the most respected companies in audio and in the past years, Sennheiser has positively surprised us with a lot of top quality products such as the HD 800 (S), the HD 820, the HD 660 S, the HD 560 S and several other HD 5-series headphones. Sennheiser has also been active on the TWS market and the Momentum True Wireless 2 scores pretty well there.

What should you get instead of the IE 300?

The IE 300 earphones are designed and engineered in Germany and they feature a special German made 7mm XWB (Extra Wide Band) transducer. The IE 300 is a single dynamic driven IEM, but its performance is exceptional. More on that later in this article.

The IE 200 can be seen as the poorer sibling of the IE 600, where it maintains good neutrality but is less articulate and relatively less detailed. But its frequency response is less offensive, it has good bass presence, it has clear engaging treble, its midrange is also cosy without too distracting. Compared to the IE 300, the sound staging among the instruments sound more cohesive on the IE 200. The bass is less overpowering which brings out midrange better. The IE 300 is somewhat too preoccupied with tuning the treble to such extraordinary feel that it somewhat neglects the balancing of the midrange instruments. No doubt the IE 300 sounds more impressive on initial listen, but the IE 200 is more faithful to the source. On the IE 300, the sound was super clean, and I could distinguish each instrument quite clearly thanks to excellent imaging. The bass is mixed somewhat low, but that’s in the recording, not in the reproduction by the IEH. With the exception of the bass on “Adulthood,” all these differences were extremely minor, but the IE 300 never once gave me anything but stellar sound. Bottom line What’s less certain with Sennheiser earbuds is the sound character we’re going to be met with. The audio brand has nailed class-leading insight and tonal neutrality in countless models, but has also shown an inclination towards richer, fuller and not so universally appealing sonic signatures. Unfortunately with the IE 300, it’s more a case of the latter. Every company’s worst nightmare: a graph Welcome to the first of my Cliffnotes, a series where I push out rapid fire

Introduction - what is the Sennheiser IE300?

The Telarc recording of Rufolf Serkin, Beethoven Piano Concerto #1. Serkin is among the world greatest pianists and a joy to listen to on a good system as he can coax every last bit of power out of the stronger passages and still make the quiet moments nearly inaudible. If the piano doesn’t speak to you in this piece, it likely never will on that device. Construction is excellent, with gold-plated connectors and a kevlar-esque material coating the cables. The same attention to detail is present in the design of the audio components, with some clever engineering allowing for much more of a sense of space than in-ears are often afforded. The Peer Gynt recording of Edvard Grieg’s “In the hall of the mountain King”. This piece has more dynamic range than most and gives the ie300 a chance to really show off the distance between the quiet passages while retaining detail and the elevated passages without loss of control of the low end. Design wise there to me are 3 highlights. First, the tiny Sennheiser logo on the outside/face plate. Second the slightly tilted nozzle, supplying a perfect fit, and lastly the grill design at the end of the nozzle which is repeated in n-both the provided silicone and foam tips. It’s all in the little details. The build quality is excellent and with the soft, round edges the IE 300 looks comfy, high end and professional. As said, the Sennheiser IE 300 has a very plastic look at feel, but it’s actually very well built.
