About this deal

At #2 on the list of the most expensive Pokemon cards from Shining Fates we have the Shiny Holo Rare Suicune. Suicune was introduced in Generation 2 as one of the three Legendary beasts resurrected by Ho-Oh. Suicune is a water type Pokemon and was featured on the boxart for Pokemon Crystal. Rarely does the middle form of a three-stage evolution Pokemon have a card that's worth more than the final form. Drizzile, the middle form of Sobble from Pokemon Sword & Shield, happens to be just the case in the Shining Fates set in the Pokemon Trading Card Game. This article is part of Project TCG, a Bulbapedia project that aims to report on every aspect of the Pokémon Trading Card Game.

Legendary Pokemon are a part of the franchise that helps build inherent value in the property. These creatures tend to be mystical or ancient and possess some incredible power. Suicune is one of the three legendary dogs belonging to the Johto region featured in Pokemon Silver & Gold. With Full Art cards recently seeing a surge in popularity among collectors, it is a bit surprising that Skyla is the only Full Art Trainer card to make it on the list of the top 10 most expensive Pokemon cards from Shining Fates. Ever since day 1 of launch, this Full Art Trainer has fetched a premium and set itself apart from the rest of the regular cards from Shining Fates. At #6 we get another familiar face from Generation 1. Well, to be honest, Galarian Rapidash might look a little different than you remember. This is because the Galarian forms of Rapidash and Ponyta got a remake in Generation 8.Despite Sobble being the Water-type starter Pokemon fans fell in love with, its final form named Inteleon serves only specific interests. Its design is a bit weird and there's a running joke that its equal parts titular character Rango and Randall from Monsters Inc. in appearance. Ditto may not be a dynamite Pokemon battler, but the Normal-type Pokemon is invaluable to trainers as it's an ace when it comes to breeding. In Shining Fates there are two different shiny Ditto cards, with the uglier of the two being of higher value. The other popular modern Shiny Charizard cards come from Hidden Fates and Champion's Path. The Shining Fates Charizard is a bit special, however, as it is the only Shiny VMAX Charizard to date. This comes shortly after Champion's Path released the VMAX Rainbow Secret Rare Charizard that was a huge hit. It may have been Rainbow and VMAX, but it wasn't shiny! Regarded by many to be the number 1 actual chase card of the set - the Shiny Ditto VMAX Pokemon card comes in at #8 on our list of the top 10 most expensive cards for Shining Fates. This card features the shiny Dynamax version of Ditto, a fan favorite ever since Gen 1. And if you are tired of Shiny Holo Rare Pokemon cards being featured on this list, then I've got good news for you. At #5 on this list we have the Generation 8 Legendary Pokemon Eternatus featured in a shiny Gold VMAX card.

Pokémon TCG: Shining Fates Elite Trainer Box

Shining Fates is actually broken into 2 collections - one being the standard collection with a total of 73 cards (72 plus one secret rare) and the sub-set (called the Shiny vault) which features 122 shiny cards. Skyla is the only card from the standard Shining Fates collection to make it onto this list. Every other card on this list is shiny.Next up on the list is the living Pokemon equivalent to the ever-popular My Little Pony series. Galarian Rapidash took the ferocious and stoic nature of its Kanto counterpart and added in a mystical and magical flair, with a hint of cotton candy. Its shiny form features pastel greens and yellows which are on full display with its Shining Fates card. The shiny Ditto V mentioned earlier in the list isn't the only Ditto card making the list of most valuable cards in the Shining Fates set. As most VMAX cards do, Ditto VMAX has the now blue science experiment gone wrong taking up most of the full art real estate on the card. Lapras has had an interesting existence as a Kanto native Pokemon. When the games originally came out in the '90s it wasn't one of the more popular creatures, but in the decades since it has built a solid cult following. The majestic Water and Ice-type sea creature has won the hearts of many fans over the years. Bold indicates a main expansion. Italics indicate a special set. Releases that are entirely composed of prints from other releases are small.

Pokémon TCG: Shining Fates Expansion—Release Date February 19 Pokémon TCG: Shining Fates Expansion—Release Date February 19

Just like Cinderace was featured on this list, it is perhaps unsurprising that another Gen 8 starter would make an appearance. Inteleon is the final evolved form of Sobble, the water type starter Pokemon. Just as Galarian Rapidash was featured earlier at #6 on this list, Galarian Ponyta makes an appearance at #4. If you are really fond of the design of the Generation 1 Ponyta then you might have trouble liking the Galarian design, since they completely revamped the color scheme and made Ponyta a Psychic type. Some Pokemon enthusiasts will tell you this Galarian design looks like something straight out of My Little Pony instead of Pokemon. Despite mixed opinions of the aesthetics of the card, it isn't surprising to see this card currently fetching a premium. If you didn't see this coming then chances are you didn't know Charizard was in this set. Any time Charizard gets featured in a set it pretty much guarantees a top placement in terms of price, and since this one is a Shiny VMAX Charizard, you can guess it's a very heavy hitter.Something that sets Shining Fates apart from other modern sets is the reintroduction of regular Shiny Holo Pokemon cards. While typically Ultra Rare cards (and better) are the ones that appreciate in value for modern sets, there remains an interest in Holo Rare cards and a lot of people still have a preference for that old-school design. Strangely, Rillaboom (the grass type starter evolution) doesn't make the list of the top 10 most expensive cards from Shining Fates. He comes in all the way at #20, which we feel is a grave injustice. #GrookeyGang represent. The Shining Fates set was released on February 19, 2021. The fourth subset in the Sword & Shield Series is comprised of two part; a base set containing 73 cards and a Shiny Vault set containing 122 cards. All the cards in the Shiny Vault subset are Shiny Pokemon.
