I know MUJI is trying to expand but they’re doing it slowly. I hope one day they will go to South America! Everyone can have a little bit of luxury on the low-low with these super chic Chanel cotton pads. Yes, they'll look pretty on a vanity, but they're also super soft and great for applying products. I think that's a win-win, right? I’ve never used facial cotton before (just cotton rounds) – you’re making me believe that I’m missing out on something big here. No Muji here though so I guess I’ll be splurging on the Shiseido ones…

Shiseido Beauty Up Cotton Pads 108 Cottons Made in Japan

I fell into the Shiseido cotton trap because they gave me a small box in a gwp. Of course I fell in love with them… it’s been a long addiction but now I have an alternative! 😉 First, let’s explain what a “dupe” is in the beauty world. A dupe is a product that replicates another product in terms of colour, finish, texture, longevity, performance etc. A mimic, if you will. A dupe is helpful when: I did my usual physical, observable comparisons between MUJI and Shiseido. The size of the MUJI is slightly smaller, measuring 65 x 50mm whereas Shiseido’s is 65 x 55mm. I used to use cotton balls ages ago but I find them to be very lint-y. Cotton pads are good too but usually I find them not as soft or as smooth. The facial cottons are very soft and gentle on your skin, and not lint-y at all. Taking off nail polish. Removing eye makeup. Applying toner. Exfoliating your skin. These are just some of the (many) ways that cotton pads can play a role in your beauty routine. The point being, they’re an invaluable bathroom cabinet staple—but did you know that not all cotton pads are created equal? While yes, most of them can be used in any/all of the aforementioned ways, certain ones are better suited for certain scenarios than others. Things such as texture and absorption ability, as well as size, should be taken into consideration. Not to mention these days there are even reusable cotton pads out there, which are choice for those looking to minimize environmental impact. If you have sensitive skin, certain products and tools can wreak havoc on you. That's why it's incredibly important to choose carefully. These cotton pads by MUJI are unbleached, 100 percent cotton, which means they're perfect for those with sensitivities. When I was scrutinizing the two cottons side by side, I’d say that the Shiseido is ever so slightly softer. But it’s not apparent while I was using them on even the delicate eye area. Honestly – saving 68% allows me to ignore this tiny, almost undetectable discrepancy. I’ve been using both MUJI and Shiseido cottons interchangeably for the past month to get a true sense of how similar or dissimilar they are to each other. They’re both very soft and the cotton sheets don’t fall apart in use. There’s no linting at all. I dialed up the contrast to show the difference in surface texture between the two – Shiseido has a slight ribbed texture whereas MUJI does not. It doesn’t make any difference in performance though. Some cheap brand from a shop kind of like a dollar store. I think the shop has stopped selling them though so I’ll have to expand my hunt.

Thanks! 😀 Definitely give the MUJI Cut Cotton a try – they are so soft and really gentle against your skin, especially the delicate eye area! Ooh! There is a MUJI store that opened not too long ago near me..I’m definitely going to have to try this! I’ve never used the Shiseido ones but I have heard people rave about them. Awesome post! These hypoallergenic, anti-bacterial, and anti-microbial cotton rounds are the ultimate reusable cosmetic pads on the market. Not only are they great for removing makeup, but thanks to the soft terry texture, they also have great exfoliating purposes as well. Oh, and they come with an adorable pink carrying case. Definitely give the Shiseido ones a try at least once in your life! I find cotton rounds good for just the face but the Shiseido to be excellent for the eye area. I use it to remove my eye makeup every single nice. The cotton rounds I use it with toner only where I’m not needing to rub the skin. Listen, soft, delicate cotton rounds are great for your face. But when it comes to removing nail polish? You're going to want a durable pad that holds up. Enter: The Graham Hands Down Ultra Nail and Cosmetic Pads. Your nail polish doesn't stand a chance against these bbs. In addition, MUJI sells “Peelable Cotton”, and “Cotton Puffs” (thanks to Polished & Inspired for pointing this out!) which are not the same as the Cut Cotton. MUJI Cut Cotton WHITE is what you want! 😀

Shiseido Beauty Up Cotton Pads, 55x70mm, 108 Cottons, Made in

Great review! I bought a whole bunch when I was in Japan, so when I saw your post I felt like I got my money’s worth 🙂 Oh wow that sounds seriously good. Unfortunately there is no Muji around here. *fingers crossed I get to go on that work trip* Haha we call people who think they’re the most unique person in the world and require special attention, “Special Snowflake”… 😛 MUJI is such a unique concept. I’ve started to really like their CLOTHES too. Such good quality and all classic styles. Also, don’t forget the FOOD – I just bought another 2 bags of those marshmallows with the gummy bits inside! If you're looking for a cotton pad that does it ALL, look no further than the Shiseido Facial Cotton. Made with 100 percent cotton, these bbs are super soft yet incredibly durable due to their whopping 27 layers.

These square pads are made from 100 percent organic cotton, which also happens to be GOTS certified by Ecocert (this means you can feel confident knowing no hazardous chemicals are being used during the production and processing of the fiber). They’re soft and lint-free and surprisingly dense, the ideal choice for applying skincare or removing makeup. Most cotton pads on the market are designed for single use. Though they're usually not exorbitantly expensive, using one or more a day can add up. With larger pads, Dr. Engelman says you can "cut each square in half to make them last longer."
