About this deal

He is known to be present in six episodes, but he may have been in more of the ones that were unaired. His scenes are generally lengthy and considered frightening. His signature songs, "Come, Come, Rip" and "One Year Closer", contain some ambiguous and dark themes. (Although the latter very obviously speaks of Janice being closer to death, and thus closer to becoming another victim.) Along with their friends, Wolf and Dark, they are faced with danger and obstacles at every turn, from wild animals to an evil entity from their past. Their task seems impossible but can they use their skills and magical abilities to work together to save the world and all the clans within it. When Michelle Paver announced a continuation trilogy ten years after Ghost Hunter ‘ended’ the series in 2010, I had concerns that it would slip into what I’ve come to term ‘Cursed Child’ syndrome - when an author tries to continue a series years after its end and it ends up feeling like fan fiction. Viper’s Daughter, released last year, assuaged some of those fears, yet it still felt distinctly different in style to the original six. Skin Taker, fortunately, is a triumphant return to form in that regard.

Another outstanding story, Skin Taker, like its fellows, deserves more than one reading to truly appreciate the detail and care with which it has been written. I cannot wait for the final instalment. This is a first rate magical action/ adventure for older children and younger teens, but I would recommend reading the earlier books in the series first (as I’m looking forward to doing). This is an excellent book filled with chaos and turmoil as Torak risks everything to save the whole world. I had never read Michelle Paver's books before but as soon as I finished Skin Taker, I was desperate to read more of her work. They change from time to time, but here are the ones that have lasted. For heroes, it’s Aragorn from The Lord of the Rings and Hector from The Iliad. For villains, it’s Dracula (the Bram Stoker one, of course), and Stavrogin from The Devils. Michelle Paver has done it again in the eighth book in her epic, emotional Chronicles of Ancient Darkness Stone Age series that began with Wolf Brother. Skin Taker reels with a rollercoaster sense of adventure, shadowy atmosphere and an infectious spirit of survival as Torak, Renn and Wolf must find new ways to exist during the midwinter Dark Time, when new dangers are awoken and devastation looms. Great question. The joys include being reunited with Torak, Renn and Wolf – as well as other favourite characters such as Fin-Kedinn, Dark and the Walker. I also love evoking the Forest, the Sea, and all the many creatures whom my characters encounter in their adventures, as well as introducing the reader to new clans. The challenges include how to keep each new story vivid and exciting, without repeating what has gone before – AND how to ensure that each new story appeals both to fans of the series, and to readers who are new to the WOLF BROTHER books, and want a standalone story. How is Skin Taker similar to the previous book in the series, Viper’s Daughter? How is it different? Born in Malawi in 1960 to a Belgian mother and a father who ran the tiny 'NYASALAND TIMES', Michelle Paver moved to the UK when she was three. She was brought up in Wimbledon and, following a Biochemistry Degree from Oxford, she became a partner in a big City law firm. She gave up the City to follow her long-held dream of becoming a writer. She is the author of the brilliantly successful children's series, THE CHRONICLES OF ANCIENT DARKNESS, the final book of which won the 2010 Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize. In terms of characters Skin Taker seemed to focus more on developing the central cast, it was good to see The Walker make another appearance though. There were some very well done emotional scenes between Torak and Renn and I think Wolf too grew more as character this time, especially at the end. Paver powerfully presents a world view that’s magical but never primitive’ Financial Times’It transports us a long way from the here and now’ Sunday Times, Children’s Book of the Week’This book is a novel to be cherished, treasured and loved by every young generation to come’ LoveReading4Kids Hello all new and old in the fandom, I give you a fantastic deal. FOR FREE :OFirstly, I wondered how life had been for you during the pandemic – how do you feel your writing and creativity has been affected? This book pulled me in immediately, Michelle Paver still conjures up all of the atmosphere of the original books and expands the stories of her beloved characters, while still isn’t afraid to impact them and their world massively. In Skin Taker Torak, Renn, Wolf and all of the Clans face their greatest devastation yet. When death comes from the sky all of the clans are scattered and thrown into panic and turmoil which grows greater still when The First Tree no longer appears in the long winter nights. Torak, Renn, Dark, Wolf and their ravens must push their skills to their limits to save what remains of the Forest. This immersive read leaves no stone unturned as clans must find a way to put aside their rivalry and work together in this battle for survival of their beloved forest. When she mysteriously disappears, Torak and Wolf brave the Far North to find her. At the mercy of the Sea Mother and haunted by ravenous ice bears, their quest leads them to the Edge of the World. Skin Taker Thousands of years ago, the land is one dark forest. Its people are hunter-gatherers. They know every tree and herb and they know how to survive in a time of enchantment and powerful magic. Still on bears, the episode when Torak bumps into a bear on a foggy river is based on the experience of an intrepid young Norwegian hiker whom I met on a trip to Malangenfjord in 2015. The same young woman also told me of a separate incident when she’d scared off a bear from entering her tent with a puff of pepper spray; I substituted earthblood when this happens to Dark. Run wild with Wolf Brother in a Stone Age world we all want to be a part of with million-copy-selling author, Michelle Paver. Danger, magic and non stop adventure await Torak, Renn and Wolf. The Clans will be tested as never before, as they battle to find ways to survive and thrive in their beloved Forest.
