Understanding the World ELG: Past and Present. Talk about the lives of the people around them and their roles in society. Look at photos and videos of jellyfish and make some illustrations or paintings of them. Combine the pictures made by everyone in your class to make a huge underwater display. Your can choose from a range of resources within this activity to see which best suits your KS1 class.

Sea otter Sophie is snuggling on her mummy’s tummy in the sea when she asks mum what the horizon is. Yet when mum goes to catch a fish, Sophie spies a lighthouse on the horizon and decides to investigate... Use publishing software to teach people why it is important to reuse plastic bags instead of buying new ones every time we go to the shops. Understanding the World ELG: People, Culture and Communities. Explain some similarities and differences between life in this country and life in other countries, drawing on knowledge from stories, non-fiction texts and – when appropriate – maps.We love this non-fiction book because unusually for a book aimed at EYFS, it has photographs rather than illustrations. This book contains 24 National Geographic photographs of water being collected, stored, transported and shared in different ways around the world. Each picture has a brief caption of two or three words, with longer descriptions of the photographs and a map of the world at the end of the book. For water related activities, see our looking through water STEM at home activity and our floating flowers activity. Read to my three year old at bedtime, who cried out, frustrated, about three quarters of the way through “this is boah-wing to me! It’s yust Stanley gets swallowed again and again!”. We switched to something else, which she listened to for precisely 22 seconds before she was dead asleep. So I don’t think her review was legit. I really liked the illustration, myself. She sort of has a point about the story, but that’s just, like, her opinion, man. TL;DR: exhausted child irrationally hates everything. Understanding the World ELG: Past and Present. Understand the past through settings, characters and events encountered in books read in class and storytelling.

At the end of the story, Stanley is turned into a kite. Make a list of the different ways you could reuse an old plastic bag Understanding the World ELG: The Natural World. Explore the natural world around them, making observations and drawing pictures of animals and plants; Expressive Arts and Design ELG: Creating with Materials. Make use of props and materials when role playing characters in narratives and stories.Understanding the World ELG: The Natural World. Explore the natural world around them, making observations and drawing pictures of animals and plants. his stripes were too straight and his tentacles too few. He just floated in the sea, not sure what to do. You see Stanley was no ordinary jellyfish.” This is a colourful fact sheet that encourages your class to learn more about plastics in the sea in a simplistic way.

The blue balloon in the story takes the little boy and his dog Kipper on an exciting journey into space. Where might the magical blue balloon take you? Working either individually or in very small groups, talk to the children about imaginary journeys. Record their narratives, and provide dressing-up clothes and props to reflect their ideas so they can act out and further develop their journeys. Take photographs, scribe the children’s words and turn them into a book of stories to share with the whole group. The activity at the bottom can be then used to highlight to the class that although words rhyme, they can have different endings. E.g. do, blue, chew -oo sound.
