About this deal

You have become my favorite author. I’ve read 4 of your books in the past three weeks! Keep up the good work. Reply For fun, I’d have to say Raleigh, because he’s a teenager who’s got himself into a world of trouble. He’s a likeable mess, so you have to feel for him.

Someone We Know: From the number one bestselling author of

This book had me on the edge of my seat, finishing it this morning around 3am. I highly recommend this book, it is my favorite so far from Shari, can wait to see whats next. The book is about a murder in the neighborhood. The author takes us through several different people and perspectives. I was sure I knew who it was but it wasn’t who I thought. I did figure it out before the end but it was still a great read. Someone We Know takes place in a tranquil suburb of New York. Robert Pierce reports that his beautiful young wife Amanda is missing. Did she leave on her own or has something sinister happened to her? The police arrive in the neighborhood, and proceed to unearth the residents' every secret. And there are so many, because everyone has something to hide. Shari Lapena is one of those authors that should be on everyone's reading lists. Her writing is always dripping with suspense, and she always knows how to captivate an audience. Sadly, I've only read her last release, An Unwanted Guest, but that was a fun adventure! When I was given the opportunity to read Lapena's upcoming novel, Someone We Know—I just jumped out of my chair at the chance! Hell to the YES. THE AUTHOR MADE FOOL OF US: Yes mostly she did! She confuses your mind by giving different end scenarios! Final twist was nicely served. We read a great book of a gifted mind. APPLAUSE!

AS USUAL TOO MANY UNLIKABLE CHARACTERS: Of course I’m not quiet fan of cheaters, liars, fake friends, noisy neighbors who were watching (mostly stalking) the other houses’ inhabitants. Don’t forget Carmine Torres who threatens everyone just show them how smart and good detective she is. Suspicion and betrayal are a constant thread in SOMEONE WE KNOW. Is anyone in the book true to anyone else? I'm not sure what you are questioning. Adam killed Amanda because his Dad was having and affair with her. Glenda killed Carmine because she thought Carmine was too nosy and would reveal what Adam did. Canadian author Shari Lapena offers up the tale of a suburban family in which no one can be trusted: It’s not a comforting book, but it is a thoughtful one—and if you like an edge-of-the-seat scary read, it’s worth reaching for.”

I have to say I could not put this book down! It is a who done it but it is so well done! I have never read this author before but I can tell you I will be reading more from her! Olivia is mortified by her son Raleigh breaking into neighbors’ houses. Do you think the apology letters were a bad or good idea? To what degree should parents feel or be held accountable for the actions of their children? Discuss. Releasing her first book in 2007 Shari Lapena made her début onto the literary scene with her novel ‘Things Go Flying’. It was a stand-alone title with shades of David Sedaris and Douglas Copeland in it, as it brought their wit and warmth to the forefront of the narrative. With a creative approach to the genre, it manages to take a flight of fantasy that was equally grounded in its sense of character and personality. Well played Ms. Lapena! I was all in from the beginning to the end, completely gripped. Sometimes, forgetting to take a breath. This is how you do it, ladies and gents! Shari Lapena is the Queen of the Suspense Genre!

This is a clever whodunit with enough layers and suspects to keep me guessing right up to the end. A teenage boy has a secret habit that unknowingly exposes his neighbor’s darkest secrets. When his mother sends anonymous notes to her neighbors warning them, she stirs up a hornet’s nest of secrets and lies.

Following on from this with another two stand-alone novels, she carried on in much the same vein as before. Writing ‘Happiness Economics’ in 2011 followed by ‘The Couple Next Door’ in 2016, she would feature many similar themes as to what came before. Featuring characters that were well drawn in realistic settings, she managed to gain a sense of realism in her prose unlike any other. Another thrilling domestic suspense novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Couple Next Door and Not a Happy Family An example of an inner monologue that drove me over the edge is from His & Hers. I'm paraphrasing but she said something to the effect of: "Mondays are my favourite day of the week. Yes, that's an unpopular opinion. But I grew up poor so I have lots of them." Immediately no. Instant cringe. Was this really the only way the author could tell us miss girl made it out the mud? This lil illogical ass correlation? Nah bruv. In this neighborhood, it's not just the husbands and wives who play games. Here, everyone in the family has something to hide . . .

Throughout the book, there were several big reveals centering around people's involvement with Amanda and Richard Pierce. It made me wonder how many of those things would have happened if Amanda and Richard had moved to a different neighborhood. In other words, would the cheater / cheaters eventually have cheated on their spouse if the Pierces had not moved into the neighborhood. Did they always have it within them or was that behavior brought out due to circumstances. Deep thoughts... Someone We Know is a tour de force of thriller writing. Shari Lapena proves yet again that she is the mistress of the pacy plot, cliff edge tension and menacing suburban claustrophobia.
