Impressed with it so far, even with the Jetboil burner, but with the SATO it’s superb. Hiking Exped Athrotaxis cupressoides Simmering, it has a bigger torch which reaches a bigger space underneath the pot compared to Soto Amicus I’ve never been a big fan of canister stoves however I’m in the minority on this – the overwhelming majority of hikers I come across on the trail use them. While there are a large number of models available on the Australian market and a huge number more available from overseas, there are a handful of well known brands and models that dominate – the Soto Windmaster is one of those. Avoid those heavy and clunky systems and grab a Soto Windmaster and whatever titanium/aluminium pot suits your needs and budget.

One of the most significant differences between the Windmaster and the Amicus is their fuel compatibility. The Windmaster’s regulator is compatible with gas mixtures such as butane and isobutane, but not with 100% propane. The use of 100% propane is prohibited with this stove. To ensure optimal performance, always keep the base of the Windmaster clean and never place it on the ground or in sandy areas. When not in use, remember to keep the plastic cap on the gas canister to keep the valve system clean. When compared to other similar stoves, the Soto Windmaster offers more efficient heat output and less fuel consumption. This makes it ideal for those who want to save money on fuel. Furthermore, the stove is designed with a unique windshield that helps to keep the flame from going out in windy conditions. Replace O-Rings: O-rings are rubber seals that are used to form a seal between the fuel canister and the stove. Over time, these can become damaged and need to be replaced, as they are essential for preventing gas leaks.

Soto Windmaster: A long-term review - Ultralight and Comfortable Soto Windmaster: A long-term review - Ultralight and Comfortable

The keyword for the Soto WindMaster is consistency. It is reliable and consistent in windy conditions (thanks to its burner shape and low pot stand) and across a great temperature range (thanks to the microregulator). The wide burner spreads the flame out nicely and you have good control over the heat for its size. I used it to cook pancakes in my garden during Storm Malik, and throughout a year of use it hasn’t been blown out once by the wind. The Piezo Ignition has also been very reliable, and although my lighter has always been in my bag I’ve never needed to use it. Anthill wrote:Hi crollsurf, just wondering what your walking stove is to cook real food rather than boil water? The Amicus burner head is also angled, which helps to distribute heat more evenly, reducing the risk of hotspots. The Amicus stove also features a piezo igniter, making it easy to light without matches or a lighter. Then there is fuel consumption. This is supposed to be a fairly efficient stove but it went through a new 100g cannister on a recent 3 day hike boiling water for 1 coffee & 1 oatmeal each morning and a dehydrated meal at night. The last morning it died before I could boil water for the oatmeal (thank God I managed to get my coffee). crollsurf wrote:Jetboil and the MSR offering are popular and they're a good option if all you want to do is boil water. I'd say if that is what you want, either would make a good choice.

Read More The most important differences between Soto Windmaster and Amicus are their Pot Supports & Head Sizes. The Soto Windmaster Stove boasts a range of features, such as a wide, stable base for stability, an adjustable heat control to customize your cooking, and a windscreen to help protect the flame from the wind. This stove is called the ‘Windmaster’ for a reason and that’s because it copes very well in windy exposed conditions. The stove has a piezoelectric starter so it is a self contained unit and is easily started even when windy where matches or a lighter don’t work. This starter works a charm and one press is all you need to spark a flame.

It doesn't get used all that much any more due to the weight, but my old Whisperlite was pretty darn was good at a moderate simmer/sizzle so long as you half-pumped the bottle. And a nice wide heat area too. Was good for frying eggs and bacon for breakfast on all those Western Lakes fishing trips.

Fuel Type: Consider the type of fuel you will be using when selecting a Soto stove. Some models are designed for use with either propane or butane, while others can use both. The Optimus Polaris Optifuel Stove is the new benchmark for maximum versatility and ease of use in outdoor cooking. SNEWS recently put the WindMaster stove to the test. Here’s what their tester at Great Outdoor Provisions has to say about “the stealthy one.”:

A sophisticated ultralight backpacking stove, the SOTO Windmaster boasts great simmer control and excellent wind resistance for a screw-in design

The Soto Amicus stove is compatible with standard isobutane canisters such as Primus, Snow Peak, MSR, and Jetboil. On the other hand, the Amicus is compatible with standard isobutane canisters such as Primus, Snow Peak, MSR, and Jetboil. It comes with a Triple O-ring Seal and Metal Seal, which provide a secure connection between the stove and the fuel canister. The Amicus stove is an excellent choice for those who want to save money without sacrificing performance. Performance It’s well named too, because for a canister-top stove – not traditionally a very windproof design – it is able to stay alight in breezy and even gusty conditions, which in our experience invariably blow out most similar stoves. This solid performance comes down to the broad, concave burner head, which also has a small but well-designed protective lip.
