About this deal

Over the years, we've reviewed many of the best 4K projectors, from some of the highest-specified models on the market through to the more affordable and high-value ones. Not every viewer has the same needs when buying a 4K projector, so we’ve made our recommendations here based on a range of requirements, from no-compromise home cinema to sports viewing and portable use – and in all cases, tested by us. If you would like to see a bit more colour, then this device comes with a colour changing option allowing you to see the stars in a multitude of different hues. Uncle Milton Star Theatre may be the best star light projector for a ceiling, but due to its versatility, it can also be considered a cosmos star projector. The colors of the lights and lasers are vivid, and the dedicated app still affords you many customization options in terms of color mix, speed, timing modes, brightness and so on. Be mindful that the app is connected over Bluetooth and not Wi-Fi, so you have to be pretty near it to make any changes to the settings — if you're looking to control it remotely from a different room (e.g if it's in a child's bedroom and you don't want to disturb them), you'd probably want to consider something that is connected by Wi-Fi. The spherical projector isn't fixed to the supplied base so gives maximum positioning flexibility. Point it at walls, ceilings and even the floor if you have high shelving, and you won't have a problem angling the Class 2 laser away from vulnerable eyes.

What it projects, along with its accuracy and clarity, is pivotal. These projectors should have adjustable features to increase these settings, such as angle rotation, time motion. The projector itself won't need too much leeway, but you'll need to make sure you have enough room between it and your screen to get to your desired screen size. With a little math, it's easy to figure out just how deep your living room needs to be. Throwing It Out There One of the more popular short throw projectors is the BenQ TH671ST. This projector features a zoom wheel and has a throw ratio between 0.69 and 0.83. To get a 150-inch image in your home theater, this projector would need to be between 103 inches (8.6 feet) and 124.5 inches (10.38 feet) from the screen. That's not going to work in the smallest apartments, but it's not unreasonable in most homes. Here's our equation again:So this is an article from 2019, with the date changed to 2022? Where are the short throws? Many of these models are outdated, the same as others in the list, or or just very poor. I love me some what hi-fi, but this is egregious. The only native 4K projector on our list, the DLA-NZ8 is a top choice for home theater perfectionists. JVC’s projector dynamically processes HDR on a frame-by-frame basis, resulting in a true cinema-quality picture. Perhaps you’re no longer able to go out and observe the stars yourself or are after a space themed gift for the kids. Or maybe you want a relaxing light show to help you drift off to sleep. nnorton00 said:This article has been updated to "Best projectors 2020: Full HD, 4K, portable, short throw". The problem is the #1 projector, the UHD40, has been discontinued since May 2019, over a year! Any other suggestions to replace that top spot?

I currently own a ViewSonic PX800HD projector, which has a 0.23 throw ratio. This means that since I have it placed about 40 inches from my wall, I have a 175-inch screen. And it's glorious. Here's our calculation, broken down for this projector:Gaming is obviously a form of home entertainment, but not all home entertainment projectors are good choices for gaming—and you shouldn't assume one is just because it includes a Game mode in its menu (an option that even many business projectors offer). On the other hand, some are perfectly good choices for gaming. And some models labeled as gaming projectors, most notably from BenQ and Optoma, are just as useful for other home entertainment applications. As good as its picture performance is, the projector stumbles in a couple of places. Its attempts to adjust brightness on a shot-by-shot basis for some content can mean its overcorrecting in a way that makes the lighting quite jarring. Its motion smoothing can also be trouble as it helps reduce panning judder sometimes but introduces some glaring motion artifacts for everything else on screen. Fortunately, the Hisense L9G has a ton of available settings to adjust these features and many more, effectively letting users dial in the display however they like.

We're using "Standard" as a way to differentiate these from short-throw or ultra-short-throw projectors, but you probably won't see the word "Standard" listed in the marketing. Standard projectors have a throw ratio higher than one and therefore need the most space to produce a giant image. It’s a different story when you start looking at ultra-short throw models (UST), though. These are designed for smaller spaces and can sit right close up to the wall (on your TV stand or cabinet) and many can display a massive image from around 40cm away from the surface you’re projecting onto. For minimal home decor, you may consider USTs as a replacement for a traditional flatscreen TV – they’re just as versatile. All-in-One Projectors Though clearly not a scientific star projector, it would transform your gaming room, party atmosphere or sleeping environment. As the motor is very quiet — near silent, in fact, the motor noise won't be a distraction, allowing you to focus on the immersive and impressive light patterns. It has a rotation mode and an option to exclude the nebula leaving a star theater on the ceiling, or you can also view the nebula by itself. Within the mix are also some ultra short throw projectors. These can project a big, clear image onto a wall from a very short distance away, making them ideal for space saving set ups or for those wanting to avoid wall- or ceiling-mounting their projector.BlissLights Sky projector is very simple to use and it projects a field of drifting stars against a transforming blue nebula cloud. The BenQ TK700STi is an excellent and affordable 4K projector for gaming, but we think it's also a very good choice for TV and movies too –although it's quite pricey for a projector of this specification if response times aren't important to you. As a 4K all-rounder, the XGIMI Horizon Ultra is pretty hard to fault. Buy this and you’ll have an unassuming but comprehensive box offering Ultra HD quality, cinematic Dolby Vision for better image depth and vibrancy, 2300 lumens of brightness, built-in streaming with Android TV, a fantastic Harman/Kardon speaker system, as well as intelligent zooming, automatic keystone correction, autofocusing, obstacle avoidance and correction to the colour of your walls. However, the compact form and flexibility that a projector affords does make it a better choice in a lot of cases, and the ultra-large, cinematic image they can provide makes them well worth the investment for die-hard movie fans. How important is ultra short throw? The 4050 is a strong contender for anyone who wants a projector for a traditional home theater with controlled lighting. However, its 2,400-lumen rating also makes it bright enough to be an equally good choice for more casual viewing in a family room with ambient light. In either setting, its three-LCD-chip design means it can't show the rainbow artifacts that any single-chip DLP model can show, which makes it attractive to those who tend to see these red/green/blue flashes and find them annoying.
