As for the sound quality, that’s entirely unchanged from the 700 Gen 2, which means the same, powerful 50mm speakers pumping clear and loud. In the narrative game Citizen Sleeper, the Max nailed both the rumbling, ambient spaceship sounds and the bouncy, futuristic music layered on top, while in Elden Ring the clash of sword on armor rang through my head. You can certainly buy headsets with heavier bass and slightly crisper high notes, but you’ll be paying a lot more for relatively minor improvements. Xbox Series X|S | Xbox One X | Xbox One S | PS5™ | PS4™ | PS4™ Pro | PS4™ Slim | Nintendo Switch™ | PC & Mac® Straight out of the box, the Stealth 700 Gen 2 sounded like a one-star headset. The amount of fuzz and distortion to the sound was truly awful, making it almost impossible to assess any other factors. Thankfully, a software update (applied via computer) has made a huge difference, and it is now possible to get a better sense of the headset’s overall merits. The last big selling point of the Max is some extra padding around the steel headband, which is also slightly larger than with the original Gen 2. Our review of the original headset noted how comfy it was, and how the roomy earcups never irritated or overheated your ears. The earcups are unchanged here, which is a good thing, and the extra padding around the headband makes it comfy to wear it for hours.

The Turtle Beach Audio Hub mobile app for iOS and Android has received an update to v3.14.5 (189) for iOS and v3.14.5 (220) for Android. One of the biggest differences between the Stealth 600 Gen 2 and Stealth 700 Gen 2 is having access to both the Xbox pairing protocol and Bluetooth. Both headsets have the Xbox pairing, which makes syncing your headset with an Xbox extremely convenient. You just press the pairing button on the console, then the button on the headset, and they pair.

A new firmware update is ready for your Stealth 700 Gen 2 for Xbox and PlayStation ®! Connect your headset to the Turtle Beach Audio Hub program on your PC or Mac to update your device’s firmware to version (v.2.0.3). The Turtle Beach Audio Hub mobile app for iOS and Android has received an update to 3.14.8 (201) for iOS and 3.14.8 (232) for Android. The rest of the headset is exactly what you got with the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2, including a clear, loud, flip-down microphone that hides neatly inside the left earcup when you don’t need it. On the bottom of that same earcup are a series of buttons and wheels that let you adjust the volume and toggle different sound modes, depending on how you set up the headset in the accompanying Audio Hub phone app. Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 Max – Software New firmware updates are now available for your Stealth 600 Gen 2 for Xbox and Stealth 600 Gen 2 for PlayStation ®! Pairing the Max with the PS5’s 3D Audio was more impressive. After some fiddling in the PS5 settings and testing in Elden Ring, I found a setup that gave me a full, rich landscape of music and game sounds. I could hear the wind rustling through the grass, the fluttering cloth of a flag, the crunch of my footsteps, and the nearby cries of warring monsters, all layered upon one another. It drew me further into the game world. Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 Max – Purchasing Guide Even with all its changes, though, the Stealth 700 Gen 2 is still a more feature-rich version of the Stealth 600 Gen 2, and the last generation of Turtle Beach’s Stealth headsets. Though the plastic band is slightly larger and features a steel frame, the Stealth 700 Gen 2 features the same rotating hinges as the Stealth 600 Gen 2, and the same shaped earcups designed to hug your ears. And thanks to a much longer-lasting battery, you can wear the Stealth 700 Gen 2 through lots of long gameplay sessions. According to Turtle Beach, the Stealth 700 Gen 2 should last through 20 hours on a single charge, up from just 10 hours per charge on the original. Anecdotally, I found the headset lasted through about three days of regular use on average, even when regularly pairing and unpairing with my smartphone. A 20-hour charge is on the high side of average for a gaming headset, but that should be more than enough for most players, so long as you keep a charging solution handy to top it off between sessions. Fixed an issue where game volume was low on PlayStation 5. TURTLE BEACH AUDIO HUB - Desktop Software

The Audio Hub app on your gaming PC only communicates with the Stealth 700 Gen 2 as a means of upgrading its firmware. You’ll need it, but you’ll rarely use it. A new firmware update is ready for your Stealth 700 Gen 2 for PlayStation ®! Connect your headset to the Turtle Beach Audio Hub program on your PC or Mac to update your device’s firmware to version (v.2.0.6). Turtle Beach® exclusive Superhuman Hearing® sound setting lets you hear subtle, game-changing sounds so you can live longer and win more. Hear vital game details like enemy footsteps and weapon reloads to elevate your game above the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 – GamingThe Stealth 700 Gen 2 delivers strong overall audio quality. Its 50mm “nanoclear” speakers come through loud and clear and mostly sharp in all kinds of games, competitive and story-driven, including Marvel’s Avengers, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and others. Across the board, both music and game sounds came through across the spectrum – low, mid, and high tones. In Star Wars: Squadrons, you can hear and feel the low hum of the ships, and hear the little nuances of blasters and other Star Wars sounds that we’ve all come to know so well over the years.Like the Stealth 600 Gen 2, the Stealth 700 Gen 2 supports virtual 7.1 surround sound through Windows Sonic, and offers a functional, but not particularly rousing virtual surround sound experience. In games like Apex Legends, you can hear directionality of gunfire, footsteps and other sounds, but sounds coming from your side or behind you sometimes sound disproportionately loud. On the Stealth 700 Gen 2 specifically, I noticed that Windows Sonic created compression issues, which led to little pip noises coming out of nowhere every so often. Simply put, most games sound better with it off. The headset’s newly-added metal-reinforced headband and glasses-friendly design mean even players with big heads and glasses frames aren’t going to be made to feel uncomfortable during marathon sessions. We have very minor complaints about the quality of the hinges and joints that allow the cups to move and the headband to adjust, but through some quite intense testing (over a period of months!) the headset has held up and is as good as new now, some 100+ days into our review period. The Turtle Beach Audio Hub V2 desktop app has received an update to v3.14.6.84 (PC) and v3.14.6.83 (Mac). That’s now changed, and a number of 3D Audio-compatible headsets are available from a number of manufacturers, including the well regarded Turtle Beach. The Stealth 700 Gen 2 is the successor to one of the company’s best-selling headsets, with added support for next-gen consoles. We’re testing the PS5 version (which is also compatible with the PS4 and Nintendo Switch), but there’s also an Xbox Series X/S (and One) version. Both also have built-in Bluetooth for use with various other sources such as phones and tablets. Turtle Beach’s exclusive, patented ProSpecs™ glasses relief system features dual-foam ear cushions, with softer foam in the section of the ear cushions that rests against your glasses, alleviating pressure and allowing gamers with
