About this deal

David Michie’s portrayal of the Dalai Lama adds a dimension of ordinary “humanity” to this global icon. Through Mousie-Tung’s eyes, the reader gets to see this kind, compassionate and brilliant man go about his every day business. His interactions with the cat thoroughly charmed me. Throughout the book, as Mousie-Tung tells her story, the reader gets introduced to some of the basic concepts of Buddhism. And who better to explain these teachings than a cat? Those of us who have opened our hearts to the many lessons cats teach us won’t find it much of a leap at all to believe that cats are indeed “boddhicatvas,” as Mousie-Tung calls herself (in Buddhism, a boddhisattva is an enlightened being). That Buddhism is all about compassion is what HHC gathers from the Dalai Lama. She describes the presence of the great man.. His Holiness is certainly aware of my books, Iveta. He once had a cat but hasn’t had one for some time. The story created around HHC is largely based on the activities of my own pampered feline, Princess Wussik! Warm wishes, David sometimes our negative conditioning can be overpowering… learn from your mistakes and move on. Like that.” I would love to give a copy to my close Italian friend, and I wonder if your books have been translated into Italian?

The Dalai Lama’S Cat And The Four Paws Of Spiritual Success

As a cat lover, one often wonders what goes on behind the calm-on-the-surface faces of these felines. If one were to go by David Michie’s cat creation, quite a lot. HHC is as much at a loss as we humans in dealing with everyday life and problems. Living with the Dalai Lama and other monks, HHC gives us a first-hand account of how to practise mindfulness, the true cause of happiness and that Dharma isn’t about ‘mouthing high-sounding principles’. The cat goes all out to evolve into a ‘true bodhicatva’! David, I bought the Dalai Lama’s Cat purely because of my love of cats. What a beautiful surprise! I literally sobbed through the book, I don’t mean cry, it was heart wrenching wails. The messages obviously had a profound effect on me..lol. Mindfulness means paying attention to the present moment deliberately and non-judgementally.” Why you should read this book… Jayne on REVIEW: Midnight is the Darkest Hour by Ashley Winstead @Jennie: So Ruth was "Eve" tempting the lascivious snake wit... The Conscious Cat Product Guide features all of the best products for cats and cat lovers. From furniture, scratching posts, beds and toys to food dishes and litter boxes, you’ll find everything you need for your feline family members. After publishing Buddhism for Busy People in 2004 and subsequent non-fiction books, I sometimes found myself talking to people who were voracious readers, and had a keen interest in the subjects I wrote about. They hadn’t read my books – and they didn’t plan to. The reason wasn’t personal, and was quite simple: they didn’t read non-fiction. They never went near the Self Help shelves of a bookstore. And they weren’t about to start now.

Thank you so much Brinda, for your very generous words! I am so glad your relationship with your own feline friend is a deeper one too! Warm wishes, David This got me thinking about how to weave key themes and messages into a fictional format. When I heard that the Dalai Lama once had a cat, being a pet lover myself, I immediately though of what an amazing life the cat must have. If only it could talk. Sign up for my newsletter. You’ll hear from me once or twice a month with blogs and other news designed to be stimulating and useful.Having already a profound and fulfilling connection with my own feline friend, I have observed a further deepening in our shared moments while reading this book. Thank you! Dear Malka, Thank you so much for your warm and generous message. I am so glad that the Dharma is resonating with you! Here’s wishing you a very happy festive season and all the best with your Dharma journey in 2016! Warm wishes, David I am also most grateful to you for helping bring the book to wider attention. Trying to launch a little book like this into such a noisy environment is a challenge – and I am truly thankful to you – and also Layla – for your warm hearted support! All 3 books of The Dalai Lama’s Cat series are probably the best books I have ever read. They are happy and calming books; and very inspiring for self improvement. It also made my relation with my cat more special! I sure do hope these are just 3 of a long series to follow! Dear Lynne, Thank you so much for your very kind message. I am very sorry to hear about your chronic pain. I just wanted to mention the work of Dr Bruno Cayoun, who I had the privilege to meet this year at a conference. He specialises in helping people suffering from chronic pain use mindfulness to manage their condition – often with astonishing results! http://www.mindfulness.net.au/micbt-books-cds.html

The Dalai Lama’s Cat by David Michie - Dear Author REVIEW: The Dalai Lama’s Cat by David Michie - Dear Author

I so agree! I am the same. I work hard and want to be taken away into a fantasy life in my spare time. But I’m also very hopeful to grow spiritually, so your books have been a favourite of mine. One question I’ve always wanted to ask you is did the Dalai Lama and the Queen (Queens Corgi) have to, or want to comment on these books? So as far as I’m concerned, the case is closed. You have photographic evidence that the Dalai Lama is a Cat Lover. I, HHC, have an online pawprint that grows by the day. The matter of my existence is therefore beyond dispute. Hi David ~ I sure hope HHC’s adventures continue in further books. I love the series, and I think it was a brilliant idea of yours! Hugs. In the months that followed I watched His Holiness working on a new book . . . I began to think that perhaps the time had come for me to turn my paws to a book of my own . . . one that tells my own tale . . . How I was rescued from a fate too grisly to contemplate, to become constant companion to a man who is not only one of the world’s greatest spiritual leaders and a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, but who is also a dab hand with the can opener.” Puh-lease! It’s enough to make you want to sink your fangs very deeply into a tender part of their anatomy. So, I want to put this matter to rest, once and for all.Thank you so much for your wonderful message, Samantha! I am so happy that HHC’s messages are resonating with you! Warm wishes, David If you’re interested in learning more about mindfulness and other Buddhist principles, this is an easily accessible way to do so. If you believe that cats have many lessons to teach us, reading this enchanting book will be a transformational experience for you. By the way, is your cat quite as delightful as me? Does she give you such precious opportunities to practice generosity and patience? I think I deserve to be told!

The Dalai Lama’s Cat series – David Michie

I am a person with chronic pain and your Dalai Lama’s cat series has been such a comfort to me. The messages of Buddhism included in the novels are inspiring and full of hope. Please write more of this series! They are such a breath of fresh air in a world filled with anger, hatred and violence. We need to keep hearing about impermanence and what brings true happiness. I’m reading and enjoying The Magician of Llasa right now. You are so talented and have so much wisdom to share. Thank you.Hi David, I´m wondering whether the Dalai Lama knows about your book? I hope he does! It was a joy to read it, thanks! and one more question: was the cat real? I red articles about the book and I understood that the cat was real just the story you created around her was fictional. Is it right? I am asking because my english is not the best and I might misunderstood it. Thank you! Hi David, I’m halfway through and loving this book. There have been many touching moments for me throughout the story – you have conveyed the elusive nature of Dharma realisation very well.
