About this deal

Imelda Dooley is scared. Really scared. She's played hard and fast and now she's been caught. She's pregnant and now she's on her own. Her father, not a man to mess with, will see that somebody pays for this. And it's not going to be her. So Imelda Dooley tells a lie. A lie that literally causes murders. Seriously, the writing was very bad. Sometimes, I've to read again to understand which dialogue was spoken by whom. Some words are totally out of this world. I don't know that people in UK call "myself" as "meself", "police" as "filth" & many more terms were totally naive. First read a Martine Cole book years ago when I waited at an airport. I could not put it down. After that I was addicted and have almost read them all. Reply

When Mary Dooley's husband is killed in the night's events, she knows she must graft to keep the family afloat. And graft she does, becoming a name in her own right. But she still has to watch her daughter's life spiral into a vicious, hate-fuelled cycle of drugs and prostitution.

This book is more a mystery than a thriller. She keeps you guessing right to the end. Although there are hints throughout.

a b c d e Cadwalladr, Carole (31 May 2009). " 'The Booker prize money wouldn't even keep me in cigarettes' ". The Observer . Retrieved 23 June 2018. This is the first book by Martina Cole, I enjoyed her writing in the novel, it was a book that I could not put down, This is all such a shame from such a well respected author and I have read Martina Cole books previously and enjoyed them. I have read all Martina’s books listed above and now that I am retired I am going to read them all again – love love love them !! Three of Cole's novels have been adapted for the stage by the Theatre Royal, Stratford East, London: Two Women in 2010; The Graft in 2011, and Cole's first novel, Dangerous Lady in 2012. [11] Other interests [ edit ]Whilst this wasn't Cole's strongest novel, the plot itself raised some interesting questions and I was completely invested in the outcome. Terrible. Extremely ugly writing in ugly language about ugly people. Author has a single most favourite word (starting with F) which she puts in the random places. I am sure pimps and drug dealers use F-word and others more creatively. It's been a very long time since I've read a Martina Cole novel. I used to love her books and so when I was rearranging my bookshelves, as is needed when you've bought more, I found one that I hadn't read and decided to dive right in. I always devour Cole's novels, so when I found this one in a book sale, I snapped it up and inhaled it.

A four-part TV adaptation of Dangerous Lady was broadcast on ITV in 1995, and in 1998 ITV broadcast a four-part adaptation of The Jump. The Take was serialised on British television on Sky1 in June 2009, which starred Tom Hardy as Freddie. Sky1 has also commissioned an adaptation of The Graft, which has yet to go into production. [7] I am in agreement with some other reviewers on here. How anyone can read this book and give it 5 stars is beyond me. I like a good thriller/crime story and this is none of the above. I hate to say this but I didn't love this book like normal. I'm gutted to not enjoy it as much because I love Martina, but something just didn't work for me here. I liked the characters and I thought the plot was interesting but in my opinion, there was a spark missing. Since her 20s she has suffered from rheumatoid arthritis after breaking both arms as a child. The arthritis has worsened over time, and now makes it painful for her when writing. [16] [17] Books [ edit ] Any issues with the book list you are seeing? Or is there an author or series we don’t have? Let me know!So when her beautiful teenage daughter is raped and murdered, only one thing will stop Joanie's pain - seeing her daughter's killer brought to justice. Joanie knows who he is and she'll do whatever it takes to nail him . . . The book seemed really promising, amazing plot, but Martina kept repeating the same thing over and over again. The Know by Martina Cole | Waterstones

Most of her novels feature a female protagonist or antihero, and some take place within the Irish community in and around London. [4] The novel follows the progression of Danny Boy's career from child 'hero' to feared 'Face' and it highlights how arrogance and over-confidence can certainly become your downfall, no matter how scary you are. In the beginning, I had mixed feeling about the book, but as I caried on reading, I realised it was the characters that were causing those feeling. The book is great and so are the characters. My initial problem was that their world is so different to my world. I find it easier to identify myself with Star Wars characters, wizard or time travellers than with gangsters and all their habits. A serial killer is in town and the race is on for DCI Kate Burrows. Stop the killer before more innocent girls die... This is just on the verge of being unreadable. While the start was promising, it all just devolves into a repetitive and predictable tract. Who the killer is hardly a mystery...they are the only suspect.DCI Kate Burrows might be retired, but when the bodies of missing schoolgirls start turning up in Grantley, she's the first person DCI Annie Carr calls for help. Hmm...this book is difficult for me to rate. The Business was my first introduction to Martina Cole and one of those impulse buys while doing a weekly shop. Well, I finished the book and was very disappointed. Faces has some great characters in it and could have been a good book if it was written well.
