About this deal

Although there is a lot in the book that is grim, the heroes and their friends are wonderful - diverse, vulnerable, imperfect, funny, loyal and very brave. Due to some very long drives we heard the rest of the book this weekend. I found myself just as absorbed as the kids, caring very much how things would turn out. We were not disappointed! That being said, even my last wild guess (pun intended) could get no where near deducing that it's a children's book telling a tale of a post-apocalyptic world from a fairly original perspective - and it had to be that certain perspective, to r reach a balance between the cheerfulness and the upbeat tone that needs to exist in a book for children and the grimness of the setting. Do you like the way this story mixes up scary, sweet, cute and funny parts, or do you prefer stories that are just one thing? Für ein Kinder-/Jugendbuch eine sehr schöne Geschichte mit ein paar Längen und Ungereimtheiten, aber trotzdem kurzweilig. A very good book, filled with excitement, this book is so interesting that I finished it a day after I got it! Also it has good vocabulary a and grammar that will help in the future. I can't wait to read the sequel!

In regular demand as a speaker at schools and festivals, Piers is also a reading helper with Beanstalk, a former judge on the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize, a Patron of Reading at Heathmere School and a trustee of the Pleasance Theatre. I borrowed The Last Wild as a talking book from a local library. My kids love animals and talking books, so I hoped it would suit them. They, and I, were not so sure to start with, and after the first chapter they did not want to go on with it. They don't generally like dark themes, and Kester's life is pretty miserable to begin with. Wow, The Last Wild is the single most mindbogglingly imaginative, creative and artistically confounding book I've ever had the fortune to read.

This book is amazing and in my favourites. It has a great plot it is about a boy who losses his ability to speak following the death of his mother but he soon and is set at a time were a deadly virus has spread and has wiped out most animals. He then finds that he has a amazing ability to talk to animals when a group of pigeons start blathering to him. It is amazing and I highly recommend it. A whole English teaching sequence linked to the book The Last Wild by Piers Torday (Shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Award and nominated for the CILIP Carnegie Medal in 2013).

So, this is a children's book. If you are expecting a deep read that will scar your soul, this is definitely not for you. This Writing Root is slightly over three weeks and is based upon The Last Wild by Piers Torday, the first instalment of an exciting trilogy. Children will learn and revise many of the key grammar requirements of Y6 and have opportunity to apply them within short and longer written outcomes. Synopsis of Texts: The month which we now call January our Saxon ancestors called wolf-monat, to wit, wolf-month, because people are wont always in that month to be in more danger to be devoured of wolves, than in any else season of the year; for that, through the extremity of cold and snow, these ravenous creatures could not find of other beasts sufficient to feed upon.Plot: 4 STARS. Yay: It is good and it is interesting enough. The world faces a red-eye virus that slowly kills the Animal Kingdom. Only few survive, and they call themselves 'The Last Wild.' Led by a stag, he relies on Kester Jaynes to save them. Kester is 12 and is reluctant to find a cure. What can he do? Can he find a cure before all animals are dead? I've been a bit quiet recently because 6 weeks ago I gave birth to a lovely baby girl called Wren. Throughout my pregnancy and early weeks of being a new mum I was very distracted and found it much harder to find the time to read. This is a particular shame as obviously I adore reading. I am very proud to still be a Trustee of the Pleasance Theatre, which gave me my first ever job, and every year gives hundreds of new writers, performers, producers and technicians their first break. Spelling Seeds have been designed to complement Writing Roots by providing weekly, contextualised sequences of sessions for the teaching of spelling that include open-ended investigations and opportunities to practise and apply within meaningful and purposeful contexts, linked (where relevant) to other areas of the curriculum and a suggestion of how to extend the investigation into home learning.

Get started Close This book has taken me on an adventure it is incredible the amount of thought this book would have taken and the imagination it isn't true but it is telling what could happen but th wildlife aren't dieing of a virus they are dying of the people but I rate this book full five stars Buy from our bookstore and 25% of the cover price will be given to a school of your choice to buy more books. *15% of eBooks. Also: the unlikeliest characters and their skills are just the right thing to save the day. Thrilling ... Written in a vivid, urgent style, its sense of loss at all the creatures we have lost or are losing may be as critical to the new generation as Tarka the Otter TimesThe book is about a boy who turns out he can talk to animals but he can’t talk to other humans! I really like the idea of being able to talk to animal and the adventure they go on is so exiting.😆 I was walking my dog near to Broadhurst Green and I believe I saw something that could be described as a wolf. It was not a panther and it was too large to be a dog. It was walking through the bushes without a care in the world.” This is a very amusing book and also very addictive. When I started reading, I could not put the book down! One of the funniest characters(I think)v is the white pigeon. He always says bad things and always the wrong things aswell.
