Being an avid Poldark fan, I was on the hunt for some of the top filming locations and stumbled upon this serene cove on my adventures. As the harbour protects the village from the sea, there are still (and safe) waters to paddle and swim in. You’ll be parking on the harbour walls – If the mainland car parks are busy or full in Mousehole, you’ll need to drive along the harbour to find a space. It’s okay getting in…not so fun trying to reverse getting out. I had serious anxiety reversing my car, I was sure I was going to go over the edge! But, all good, there is a barrier. The class would discuss the various dishes mentioned in the book, especially ‘Stargazy Pie’. They would decide the ingredients for this and write up a selection of recipes and illustrations to go with these. This would become a class Mousehole cookbook.

At one point it was run by the RSPCA but it’s now run by public donations with volunteers and is a charity. You can make a phone call at the end of England, send a postcard stamped at Land’s End, have the most southerly Cornish pasty, take a photo with the Land’s End sign and go on the wealth of pretty walks around the area. This landmark has been attracting tourists for nearly 400 years! Nowadays, it’s a whole complex that you can visit. Our magical puppet and live-action production is performed annually in the heart of Mousehole alongside the village’s famous Christmas light display.Every year, the Mousehole Harbour lights are dimmed to remember those who lose their lives in the Penlee lifeboat tragedy. It’s a gorgeous whitewashed house with a teal door and windows, potted plants and even has some mice that scurry on the walls (look out for them!).

So begins this lovely, sweet, cozy and thrilling tale of Mowzer, and her human Old Tom. Life was happy and sweet in Mousehole until the one winter when the great Storm-Cat came to play in the harbor, trying to catch mice-men whenever they tried to put out to sea and go fishing. One day, Old Tom decides that he must be the one to bring fish to the starving villagers, for he has no wife or parents to mourn for him if the storm catches him, and his children are all grown. Mowzer feels much the same and, in her love for old Tom, accompanies him. But Mowzer has tamed many a wild tom cat before, and perhaps she will have a way to calm the Storm-Cat, too. You’ll find boats bobbing at high tide and you can find the smallmouth to the haven which many believe is how the place got its strange name. I really don't have a good sense of my niece's impression of The Mousehole Cat. She listened to the story, but to be fair, her attention was divided. She was working hard on developing some sort of sympathy-inducing ailment. She was about to get in trouble with her mother for not doing her homework, so she really needed to pull out all the stops. :-) One of my favourite finds on my recent trip to Cornwall was the secret hidden cove and Porthgwarra Beach.We read parts of the story and we also watched a dvd about the story. We were fascinated by the descriptive language in the story.

One of the best, in my humble opinion, is Hole Foods. An adorable bistro that serves up breakfast, brunch, lunch and cream teas! My cottage in the little Cornish fishing village of Mousehole. We don't know how old it is, but it had to have a new roof after some marauding Spaniards set fire to it in 1590. It is small and snug and I can watch the blue-green sea and the little harbour from my window. I go there to rest and unwind and sometimes to work in peace because there is no telephone. It is full of happy memories of holidays with my children.

Curriculum

It is now a huge tradition and event that takes place each year with bigger and better lights. Some within the village, some out on the harbour and even some at sea!
