Liz is lonely. Since the death of best friend Jen, she hasn’t had the energy to keep the Seaside Gourmet Girls in full operation. And so begins the family’s ordeal. Freya struggles with the impact of Lexi’s illness, all the while trying to hold her family together as each reacts in different ways to the upheaval it causes in their life. Keen to discover the inspiration behind this powerful, moving story, I spoke to Amanda about the novel, just as it reached No. 1 in the Kindle charts. Set in Salcombe, Devon, Cathy immediately pulls you into the story of Liz, who longs for visits from her goddaughters; Clare, a fiercely independent single mother; and Skye, a free-spirited young woman harbouring secrets. The Promoter’s decision is final and binding on the entrants. No correspondence will be entered into. However, half-sisters Skye and Clare couldn't be more different, struggling with family secrets and hidden jealousies. As the women navigate this unexpected summer together, truths are revealed and their relationships are put to the test. Welcome to a world where women support and inspire each other. These three words sum up our approach: connection, collaboration, community. The holidays are here, and in Salcombe, Liz longs for the arrival of her god-daughters, Skye and Clare and Clare's daughter baby Ivy. After years on her own, she needs help to save the catering business she built with Clare's late mother, Jen. Liz , the godmother to our other two leading ladies, is still grieving for her friend and drinking to overcome the grief. Aaaaaaagh! I don’t like choosing! …but if pressed, I would have to say Clover’s Child. It is set in 1960’s London and I loved spending time in that era, plus it takes place in my Nan’s house so it feels familiar. The heroine Dot is one of my favourites and the story is probably the best example of the old adage; “you can never tell anyone’s story by looking at them”. This was such an easy read which had me laughing, holding my breath, even cringing but ultimately smiling from ear to ear.The second half came to me during the London 2012 Olympic Games. The city took on an electric atmosphere with people staying out late to cheer on athletes, and I thought how fun it would be to write a version of Europe that felt that way all the time! I realised that not only did the novel need to be set half in space, and half on Earth, but that the version of Earth in the novel was utopian. A perfect world. It was a Eureka moment for me: the novel would tell the couple’s love story in this wonderful place, and explain how they ended up in space with only ninety minutes of air remaining. “Gravity meets One Day” is how I described it (and still do!). The winner is responsible for ensuring they are able to accept the prize as set out and in accordance with these terms and conditions, in the event they are unable to do so then the Promoter reserves the right to redraw the prize. I am so glad! I love Lexi too. I think her spark, her energy and her fearless nature makes her the little girl I was before I realised that the world didn’t love me unconditionally the way my family did and I stopped singing in the streets, saying exactly what was in my head and became conscious of my appearance. What a lovely warm and uplifting read this is with three fabulous main characters, each dealing with their own issues in life but ultimately so much better with each other to support. Liz is still reeling from the death of her best friend and business partner, not to mention a long time unrequited love, but her way of dealing with her loss is far from healthy; her goddaughters are half sisters who have always resented each other thanks to their fathers attitude to them leaving them feeling unwanted or second best and neither are happy at the prospect of a summer spent with the other.

The Sunrise Sisterhood by Cathy Bramley | Goodreads

Reading a Cathy Bramley novel is like having a chat with your best friend over a glass of wine and a great big slice of your favourite cake and The Sunrise Sisterhood is definitely no exception. A book that had me laughing out loud and sobbing my heart out, The Sunrise Sisterhood is a spellbinding tale about forgiveness, belonging, second chances and love I couldn’t bear to put down. Comforting, funny, warm and wise. No-one does complicated family and friendships like Cathy’ Veronica Henry

You don’t need to be a genius. Writing is not something you are born with or can or can’t do. It’s something you learn, because you want to learn it. When her two god-daughters Clare and Skye come to stay for the summer, she hopes that this will be just the thing to help her find the joy in life again. Lastly, I have a petite baby therefore I can say the above because this is from actual knowledge and experience. When the idea for Do No Harm came to me, I knew in my gut that I was on to a winner. In the novel, a criminal gang abducts the child of a heart surgeon and gives her an ultimatum: kill a patient on the operating table or never see her son again. I was positive that the moral dilemma Dr Anna Jones faces – forced to choose between the Hippocratic oath and the life of her son – would be a hook that would grip thriller readers and publishers alike. After a decade of writing novels, I signed with my dream agent, Madeleine Milburn, and secured a two-book deal with Simon & Schuster for a six-figure sum. There were some bumps along the way and some surprises too - but I loved how they bonded and came through for each other in the end.

This did start off well however some things annoyed me and it just got worse from there. For starters the godmother is a drunk. She doesn’t seem to realise this and if she does she doesn’t do much to help, who drinks that much during an event they are working?! She is also obsessed with her best friend’s ex-husband for over 20 years, MOVE ON! Especially when he has been a complete ass of a person to his children and his ex wife and her. These terms and conditions apply to all competitions (unless and to the extent that) the competition states otherwise. I am a great reader of human nature and that certainly helps. I also realised quite early on that we all have the same feelings and reactions in our emotional toolkit, so I simply place myself in my characters shoes and write about how I would feel. I always knew what would happen to Lexi and whilst her journey is tough and heart wrenching, I also wanted it to be a story about hope and the unity of a perfectly flawed, close, average family. I think the best compliment I can ever have is when a reader says they felt my book was like holding a mirror to their own life. Lots of warm summer vibes - creating the perfect ingredients for a fab summer read - get ready to dive in this summer.
