About this deal

Yeah, John doesn’t panic at all. He’s very relaxed, but he’s also very passionate – he genuinely loves his job, and genuinely loves being on his own! I don’t think he’s particularly jealous of the other guys who get to be the cavaliers and go on missions– he’s quite happy being up in the space station. The star product was undoubtedly the Interactive Tracy Island Playset. The set boasts ‘smart technology’ that enables it to ‘know’ which craft is launching, and play appropriate sound and light effects. But one of the most impressive features of the product is the semi-automated launch sequences. This was demonstrated with Thunderbird 3, and it was fascinating to see the craft being moved up through the roundhouse under its own steam. The set also comes with a wrist controller that activates ‘mission sounds’ from John up in the space station. As a foreigner I was told by my agent that I’d been put up for this and not to mess it up! So I did a lot of research, and eventually ended up playing Virgil and Gordon. I heard that supposedly a lot of people loved Virgil in the original series – especially women! I realised that he was the ‘caretaker’ of the group, and is the one that makes sure that everyone’s ok. Then I found out that Gordon is this guy who thinks he’s maybe a bit cooler than he actually is, and gets to head off underwater. Virgil and Gordon are actually together a lot because Thunderbird 2 takes Thunderbird 4 all around the world on missions (I don’t think I’m giving anything away there?!). So the two work together quite well, and that informed how I played both characters. Hot on the heels of the launch of the second series of Thunderbirds Are Go, Vivid is gearing up for Christmas with a selection of new toys from the series. The pressure was kind of taken off us a little, even though we were told how big a deal this series was. When we first started recording we came in and we were almost told that we were set up to fail. There’s such a love for this show, and Giles Ridge – who’s pretty much running the ship – said that we have a lot against us, and so we’ve decided to actually run with the feeling that we are hopefully going to break through that. And you can see it from the beautiful drip feeding (the teaser campaigns) that are coming from ITV. And the reaction will change in one week from ‘This is the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen!’ to ‘This is the worst thing I’ve ever come across – what have you done to my childhood!’ the next week.

JR Toys also issued a replica Tracy pistol as used by the five brothers. Two versions were released for sale a cap firing pistol in blue or green and a water pistol also issued in two different colours (Red or Orange). Answer: I used to collect all Thunderbirds comic books and in one issue only, FAB stood For Always Brothers. I once won a competition in Smash Hits magazine with this very answer! There are a few apocryphal tales on this too. A couple of callers to an LBC radio show a few years ago cited these answers: However, during extensive research for a book on Lionel Anderson’s life, we discovered that this fact had been mis-remembered by Gerry. The truth is much more exciting and intriguing. Clearly the Thunderbirds ‘franchise’ continues to be in the very best of hands at Vivid. The company’s long and faithful association with the series was highlighted by the presence of their original Tracy Island toy at the show. The new Tracy Island is bigger, bolder and bristles with lights, sound effects and mechanical features.FAB Membership Survey – your thoughts and opinions on Fanderson sales, conventions, FAB articles and much more!

Many collectors stripped and repainted their blue TB2 models. Did you? Comment below and let us know! The first advert for the range of toys first appeared in the TV21 comic dated 15th January 1966, and the first production Thunderbird 1 arrived in stores shortly after. This was followed by Thunderbirds 3 & 5 in March 1966, and a very impressive Thunderbird 2 in June of the same year.

The real meaning of FAB in Thunderbirds…

People always want something different so long as it’s the same! That’s the case with everybody. If you were to say that the original Thunderbirds never existed, and this was the first incarnation, we’d hope that people would love it just as much even without the knowledge that there is this lineage. It doffs the hat to everything that’s happened in the past – lots of easter eggs – really well thought out easter eggs. But as the times have changed, so have these characters. We have the original – that exists and isn’t going anywhere – so let’s take the blueprint of that and drive it forward and make it more futuristic. But there’s definitely hints to the old stuff! The launch appears to be geared to give the new series maximum exposure over the Easter weekend, and will be a very good indicator of general public interest in the series for the weeks ahead.

Thunderbird 5 toys have always been difficult to get hold of. International Rescue’s space station is a difficult shape, and isn’t action oriented, so toy manufacturers have tended to shy away from them. Although these elements are said to be part of a fictional television show instead of being "real", their appearance still constitutes the licensed use of another legal property.Candy was a spin-off magazine from TV Century 21 which targeted a much younger audience. Its feature strip, Candy and Andy, was a premise from Dennis Hooper and Gillian Allan and starred AP Films-created puppet characters. The publication's stories occupied a strange place within Thunderbirds continuity, more so than other expanded media of the time. A variety of Thunderbirds merchandise could be seen occupying the Magic Toy Shop where the strip was set early its in run but later stories involved the titular characters meeting Lady Penelope and even visiting Tracy Island. The first UK produced Thunderbird 1 by HPM, had a grey body, blue retractable wings and a friction motor. The model is 20cm long, Registered design No.9, and originally retailing for 8/11d. This was later reduced to 7/11d. Stingray, Supercar, Fireball XL5, Terrahawks, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons, First Action Bureau

Thunderbirds Are Go

A crossover is a story in which elements from two fictional universes, originally created to be distinct, are brought together for the span of a specific narrative.Having grown up on Tracy Island, Kayo is like a sister to the Tracy brothers. And as an expert in the Wing Chun form of Kung Fu, Kayo can more than hold her own with the boys – not even Virgil can match her in close combat! I wanted to watch them. All of my copies are recorded on VHS – my Dad recorded them because he wanted to introduce me to Thunderbirds, and of course now they don’t work, they’re all chewed up, they vibrate, jump around – I don’ think my VHS player even works any more! So I didn’t get to see the whole season again. A new Thunderbird 5 toy comes with on-board vehicle and communication sound effects and a button that activates the rotating gravity winch when John’s assistance is needed! In this series, Lady Penelope would usually attempt to seek out and interview real world celebrities, though she sometimes met with fictional characters from other television series. The first episode will be preceded by a behind-the-scenes look at the new series. Reggie & Thunderbirds – No Strings Attached will air on ITV on Thursday, April 2 at 8pm on ITV2.
