Description

For better or for worse, T2 is incredibly similar to its predecessor. I love the original Trainspotting and really appreciate Danny Boyle's approach to making each and every scene artistic. Once again, his use of lighting, color, camera angles, and editing shine through without distracting from the plot. Speaking of which, the screenplay was very strong for such a delayed sequel. Because the source material takes place 20 years after its predecessor as well, T2 feels natural, unlike many sequels and rehashes made today. The performances across the board are strong, and every character went through strong development as we learn about what has happened in the 20 year gap and how it is effecting their lives today. Spud was the most intriguing character to me this time around. His character is the easiest to cheer for in a gang of misfits and petty crooks. Murray, Jonathan. "Trainspotting" (PDF). With filming completed, Boyle and Hirakabu bundle into an editing suite in London's Soho for the all-important job of cutting the film down' to its required 90-minute length, a process that in Trainspotting's case will take eight weeks to complete. "This is the point where the director comes in and looks at the film - and screams! " jokes Hirakabu. "It's always longer than you ideally want it to be, and it becomes evident that certain scenes either need to be cut down or deleted. The main thing is to look for continuity, to ensure that everything works. It's very detailed." Trainspotting, by Fredric Dannen, John Hodge, Barry Long, Irvine Welsh. Published by Hyperion, 1997. Boyle has some solid credits to his name since he came on the scene with this in 1996. It helps that he has a fantastic cast or Ewan McGregor, Robert Carlyle and the rest to fully encompass their roles as these drugged-out 20-somethings. Some of the scenes are, quite frankly, brutal and terrifying. There's a sense of foreboding going into a few of them and seeing the scenarios play out exactly as you think they would. At other times, there's an underlying sense of uneasy humor running through it.

In March 2017, Danny Boyle discussed the possibility of a third Trainspotting film, suggesting that it could be a spin-off centred on the character of Begbie, in a story based on the Irvine Welsh novel The Blade Artist. "I think [Robert Carlyle] would love to do that because it's an interesting twist on the character", Boyle said. "That may be made into a film. You couldn't call it T3 because, although some of the other characters come into it, they're only featured just momentarily. It's a solo story. You could call that a spin-off. [ The Blade Artist] is a great read." Carlyle was likewise open to an adaptation of The Blade Artist. "We've been talking about that, I am up for doing it", he said at the T2 premiere in Edinburgh. "So maybe we ain't seen the end of Begbie just yet". [33]Ann Hornaday (23 March 2017). "With 'T2 Trainspotting,' a watershed movie gets the sequel it deserves". The Washington Post. We sit down and make a list of the top talent," explains Boyle, "and we see a lot of actors, quite a few who we recognised from casting Shallow Grave. But for some of the parts, we knew who we wanted - people like Ewen Bremner (who eventually plays the part of Spud) and Bobby Carlyle (Begbie). Ewan McGregor is drafted down to the Smoke to do his bit, as is Scottish football commentator Archie MacPherson who is squeezed into the suite for 20 minutes on a Tuesday afternoon to add some spicy, double-entendre-layered commentary to the footage of Archie Gemmel's legendary 1978 World Cup goal that is intertwined with the film's pivotal sex scene. The roughly assembled film is shown to PolyGram for the first time. Also present are a number of cinema exhibitors. "They're the most important people," explains MacDonald, "because we want to open it when we are ready. I think it's worked out – we've got our ideal line-up of cinemas." The first showing of the completed film is scheduled for November 13. November 1995
