Description

Children have been busy researching dinosaurs in school and at home. In addition we have been looking at non-fiction, information books and we now know the names of several dinosaurs. Miss Cochrane is even able to pronounce some of their names! Spring 2/ Summer 1 - Growing/Minibeasts - Aaaarrgghh, Spider! Once There were Giants - Celebrations This week Miss Cochrane has introduced us to a new story called Tyrannosaurus Drip. The book is about two different groups of dinosaurs and the main character is poor Tyrannosaurus Drip. We have all enjoyed listening to this story and getting to know the different characters, good and bad! Our trip to the World museum will take place on Wednesday 21st January. We believe this will be a great opportunity for us to learn more about dinosaurs.

Join in as the dinosaurs stir up a dinosaurumpus! Instantly appealing, with bright and lively illustrations, and Tony Mitton's fantastic poetry and rhyming words. Although Tyrannosaurus Drip is another good work by Julia Donaldson I found that it didn't quite reach the same level as some of her other picture books. It's probably because she's written some fantastic prose in her other picture books, like The Highway Rat, that I found the mechanics of the prose a little disjointed at times. An example of this is the songs that either dinosaur family sing in the beginning of the book doesn't really continue or evolve through to the end - it's sort of left behind as an idea as the story moves along. Tyrannosaurus Drip, Julia Donaldson and David Roberts’s brilliantly funny story about celebrating difference, is much-loved by little dinosaur fans everywhere. If your little one loves this fantastic rhyming adventure story, or just can’t get enough of dinosaurs, they’ll have fun with these Tyrannosaurus Drip kids activity sheets perfect for 4-6 year olds. We have more great ideas for indoor activities for kids here. urn:lcp:tyrannosaurusdri0000dona:epub:1acba4ff-a3e5-48d7-9040-a267fc36a5ff Foldoutcount 0 Identifier tyrannosaurusdri0000dona Identifier-ark ark:/13960/t92897g5n Invoice 1652 Isbn 9780330532532This was the first of my books that David Roberts illustrated, and we had a memorable launch in the Natural History Museum, presided over by a gigantic dinosaur skeleton. Tyrannosaurus Drip is a fantastic rhyming adventure story from Julia Donaldson, bestselling author of The Gruffalo, with wonderfully funny illustrations from award-winning illustrator David Roberts. This roar-tastic book all about celebrating difference is sure to become a firm favourite with young dinosaur fans.

Interesting story to use in a class. Would be fun to work on in a playful way with children, as well as a good discussion for themes of family, friends, fitting in and getting along. Before Malcolm and I had our three sons we used to go busking together and I would write special songs for each country; the best one was in Italian about pasta. As you re read the book encourage children to join in with the refrains such as ‘Up with rivers! Down with water!’ And ‘SPLASH!’ Talk about the story This is a brilliant story emphasising that just because you are born into a particular society does not mean you will fit in there. There might be other people / places that you get along with better! It related brilliant to our topic in science which was what animals eat. This story emphasises the herbivore & carnivore descriptions. We had amazing questioning to do with this. Ocr_converted abbyy-to-hocr 1.1.20 Ocr_module_version 0.0.17 Old_pallet IA18126 Openlibrary_edition I studied Drama and French at Bristol University, where I met Malcolm, a guitar-playing medic to whom I’m now married.

I grew up in a tall Victorian London house with my parents, grandmother, aunt, uncle, younger sister Mary and cat Geoffrey (who was really a prince in disguise. Mary and I would argue about which of us would marry him).

Really good fun! Our six year old loves the rhyming and reads this with great expression and enthusiasm! Adults will enjoy reading this or having their little ones read this to them.

The rhyme scheme of the poem is engaging and the illustrations by David Roberts are really interesting and different from many others of Donaldson’s books, but I nevertheless found the book charming and delightful without being preachy. Our suspicions that a dinosaur was on the school premises was confirmed when Miss Cochrane showed us a picture of a T-rex outside school!

We turned the narrative poem (The Spider and the Fly) into a playscript, by setting it out correctly and adding detailed stage directions. We then acted them out in assembly, for Years 5 and 6. I also continued to write “grown-up” songs and perform them in folk clubs and on the radio, and have recently released two CDs of these songs.
