About this deal

War of the Scaleborn does a good job of making sure readers learn the fates of its characters both major and minor. There are a few however whose fates are ambiguous enough that they could play a major part in the future. In an IP as large and sprawling as Warcraft, some retcons are inevitable. Once all of the disparate data about a character or event are pulled together and evaluated, there are going to be contradictions. It is up to the writer working with Blizzard to tease out the threads that will become canon, and discard those that contradict the chosen path. Also remember that when the Draconic overseers start wars and commit genocide dozens of times wherever they please to take someone else's resources, its ok and dEmoCraCy; but if someone else goes to the defense of their own in danger of being genocided on their own ancestral lands in and by one of the Draconic's ethnoengineered, brainwashed and weaponised puppet factions / states, its aGaiNst tEh rULeS anD FaScisT

This telling of an old conflict which drove a wedge between factions of a species and affected their very evolution raises some interesting questions about leadership, reward, and choice that are very pertinent to today's world. One of the triggers for part of the conflict revolves around the fact that prenatal primal-dragons can be influenced into being Primals or Dragons by their egg being infused with "energies" of one kind or another. By itself, this is not an issue. The issue comes in with consent. Adult dragons can also undergo this change. So is it ok to infuse abandoned eggs? Is it ok to steal and infuse eggs? Is it ok to infuse eggs pre-hatching and not let whatever hatches decide for itself? Choice is a theme that runs throughout. Heavy is the head that wears the crown, and, as Alexstrasza discovers, a right choice on one day may turn out to have been very much the wrong choice on another, be it egg-infusion, choice of allies, or accepting a boon with strings attached. That's alot of pillow talk to basically admit it's full of Retcons. Comment by Natakutdh on 2023-10-28T04:48:55-05:00 I am afraid to like any lore or history now because i expect to be told "but thats just one view" and have it changed later. Comment by Atiaens on 2023-10-28T04:58:26-05:00 Yeah, I think arcane became too much connected with mages that while every titanic magic may be arcane in nature isnt manifested in the same way. There is not a single scenario where a book existing is bad to the franchise. Especially if the book is canon. It expands upon characters, it expands upon lore, it expands the universe and allows fresh minds that aren't on the dev team to create new characters that end up in game.Eh, I understand the sentiment, and I'd be inclined to agree... if books always did what you said. This especially holds true when it relates to the game lore and how both interact with each other.

In all their long years of friendship, Vyranoth had never known Alexstrasza to lie. Deceit wasn’t in her nature. And yet, the Alexstrasza standing before Vyranoth today was not the same dragon who Vyranoth had known through the long ages. The keepers’ magic altered Alexstrasza’s physical form; had it changed her integrity, too? Would she, like her keepers, do anything to achieve her goals . . . even lie to one of her oldest and dearest friends? Wowhead posted an article about an interesting new book Blizzard recently released titled, “War of the Scaleborn”. To quote from the article: War of the Scaleborn offers intrigue and character development, but it also raises more questions than it answers. If you're a dedicated Alexstrasza fan, eager to learn about Vyranoth or interested in the intricacies of the War of the Scaleborn, this book is a must-read. However, if you're new to the Warcraft lore, there are friendlier entry points available where you can embark on your journey. This. Blizzard has always had a reputation for retconning for literally any reason. They think of something cooler? Retcon. Don't want to bother actually explaining something? Retcon. Something you wrote in the past conflicts with the new stuff? Retcon. Is retconning something the easiest solution to literally any issue? Retcon! The book, titled World of Warcraft: War of the Scaleborn, is written by novelist and comics writer Courtney Alameda. Expanding on the lore and stories of the dragonflights, this prequel novel will cover some of the war of the dragons and its subsequent impact on the dragonflights and on the Dragon Isles.

Success!

Just finished reading it, the retcons are pretty small and of no consequence. It's like saying your great great grandmother hand blue eyes when before someone said they were as pretty as emeralds.
