Description

These novels were authored by C. L. Werner and collected in omnibus in 2015 and with additional short stories in 2019 ( ISBN 9781784969349). The entire storyline was this. It was always at least possible for Chaos to be defeated, and it looks like the Incarnates are actually going to stop the destruction of the world. That is, until Mannfred kills Gelt.

Worthy Opponent: A few cases. King Phar viewed Mortarch Krell as this during the battle of Numas. The story reason the new Khornate tribes are showing up for the first time is that they consider the hard core of remaining Southern warriors to be this. Up until this point everyone but other Warriors of Chaos was considered Not Worth Killing. The Complete Tales from the Ten-Tailed Cat edited by Marc Gascoigne and Christian Dunn (2005, ISBN 1844161455) The book starts off strong, setting up a monumental battle between the skaven & the dwarves for control of ... oh, hell, all the dwarven strongholds sound the same to me. Karaz a Karak? Whatever. Anyway, lots of fun is had with the skaven, and the dwarves are plenty stolid and interesting. I'd say I overall enjoyed the first third of the book.

What Price Vengeance? (short story, rewritten version, originally published 2002 in Inferno! issue 33) Grimnir-the original, not Gotrek. He goes to fight some ancient dragon god, and both end up destroyed in the fightDeath and Glory! by William King (short story, originally published 1993 in Warhammer Armies: The Empire) Big Bad Ensemble: Thanquol is actually a fairly minor character in his own book, only being involved in one of the featured battles. Queek Headtaker, Ikit Claw, and a rotating group of Clan Pestilence leaders share the main focus. In the novel version he's reduced to a cameo. Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: It doesn't matter if you're Nagash. It doesn't matter if you're the Chaos Gods. Settra does not serve. He rules, and he's perfectly willing to say that to your face. Gork & Mork - Now known as Gorkamorka, he joined Sigmar's alliance initially, but just wanted to fight and ended up leading the savage elements of the alliance away. Sometimes they're one being, sometimes they're two. These storylines will take you from the ancient past up to roughly around the present day and you'll have a decent understanding of the big players.
