My first read of a Cressida Cowell novel, and honestly it's very solid! Cowell constructs an entirely surreal universe with magic that pulls every which way, but keeps the narrative grounded by way of making it, at heart, a story about a conflicted group of siblings in a difficult but very real dynamic. Each of the four siblings has their own unique flare and set of strengths that complement each other. I have so many questions, including those raised by the story’s narrator. I’m looking forward to getting to know the Aunts better; they have the potential to be fabulously fun to follow around.
