Description

Now, this chapter is not about to tell you to just stop caring what anyone else thinks of you. In fact, we are built to care about how we are being perceived by those around us. Criticism can be a sign that we haven’t lived up to expectation in some way and sometimes (but not always) can signal a risk of rejection or abandonment. Relatable, real and easy to digest . . . As if your wise best friend is chatting to you. An essential mental-health bible for adults and teenagers' YOU Magazine

Julie Smith bisa menggabungkan cerita, tips, informasi, dengan science sampai sepanjang baca gue jadi berkali-kali "oalah, nyambung toh ini dengan itu..." Niklas Göke is an author and writer whose work has attracted tens of millions of readers to date. He is also the founder and CEO of Four Minute Books, a collection of over 1,000 free book summaries teaching readers 3 valuable lessons in just 4 minutes each. The point of “good enough” decisions is not to solve our problems in one go. It is to show us change is possible, to make us feel good about moving in the right direction, and to lay the foundation for better habits that will, one day, work for us on autopilot. Lesson 3: Use “square breathing” to get past sudden bouts of anxiety, then move on step-by-step. Why do we do this, when in most cases we know what the right decision is? Well, part of the reason is that the right decisions are oftentimes easier said than done. It’s simply harder to get up and go to work than it is to hide under the covers, especially when we’re in a low mood. When you feel low in mood, you’re more likely to think in this polarized way. But it’s important to remember that this is not because your brain is geing things wrong or malfunctioning in any way. When we are under stress, all-or-nothing thinking creates a sense of certainty or predictability about the world. Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before PDF Book

1. The key to square breathing

This was a very useful and practical guide for mental health issues. I loved her short, to the point chapters with tools that were also summarized at the end. The tools fitted nicely to the themes, and I’m sure everyone will find tips that they can use to improve their well-being. The author also explains concepts in a way that is easy to grasp, and I kept thinking that I must use these explanations myself when talking with clients. She was also empathic and it shows how much she cares for others, genuinely wanting to help. The use of small self-revelation were also fitting, making the reader relate and believe in the tools presented.

You wake up irritated, exhausted, and with stress hormones shooting through your body. In short, you’re in a bad mood. When you do this, they lose some of their power over you and how you feel and behave. You get to choose how you respond to them rather than feeling controlled and driven by something. Metacognition sounds complicated but it is simply the process of noticing which thoughts pop into your head and observing how they make you feel. When we understand a little about how our minds work and we have some guideposts on how to deal with our emotions in a healthy way, we not only build resilience, but we can thrive and, over time, find a sense of growth.

Smith provides an array of significantly beneficial techniques in understanding, regulating and observing our emotions as opposed to immediately reacting in negative ways, such as: Before you know it, a swarm of negative, self-critical thoughts are buzzing around your head. If we fuse with those thoughts and allow them to consume us, they can send the already low mood spiralling down further. All those self-help books that told the world to just think positive didn’t account for the fact that you can’t control the thoughts that arrive in your mind.
