About this deal

I hooked up the all tube R300 (it is even tube rectified) to the DCS Lina DAC, the Weiss 501 DAC and a Bluesound Node. The cool thing about an amp like this is that its forte is not about throwing surgical details at you. This means almost any decent DAC will do and sound lovely with this integrated. My 300b SET uses the 6EM7 as the driver rather than the 6SN7 (For the reasons you mentioned). Also it utilizes an interstage transformer in place of coupling capacitors. You can pretty much know what will be the best sounding from one value: dialectic absorption. A Poly type is typically something like 100X to 1000X better than a "lytic. This amp makes the Heresy IV’s sound warm and humongous with that inner glow we can only get from a S.E.T. amp.

Tonight the Willsenton is really starting to open up. A new amplifier, new tubes and a new modulation cable, that's a lot and takes a little time. I haven't tested headphone listening yet because I rarely use it and my headphones are modest. It's an AKG K701. I'll do a review on this point here.Polypropylene is not as clear, teflon can be a little harsh. To my ears, styrene is just right. Conductors are not as important, although there are differences. Aluminum is prone to corrosion and can be a little harsh. Copper is expensive. I find tin to be a good compromise. It shows that synergy is key. With an amp like the Hi-Fi Rose RA180 the Cardas are a Godsend, as they warm up that amps forward nature. So match the cables to the system, always! They DO make a difference if you have a well setup system and space. Some cables are made to sound warm and fat, others with a more detail focus. Some are made to sound more expansive and ethereal. I preferred the Blue Heaven as they are faster and focus less on the mid bass and are more even handed through the range.

I do have experience building tube guitar amps....initially from kits and then some scratch builds for Fender and Marshall schematics. So I can say from those builds I could even hear a difference in cheaper caps such as Orange Drops vs Mallory 150s in those builds. And a lot of musicians will pay top dollar for some vintage BumbleBee PIO caps for their Les Paul guitars claiming an improvement in guitar tone. So there has to be something there. It cannot be all imaginary.Essentially one could argue that because of this, each part individually takes on more importance particularly in the audio signal path. I believe that changing to a higher quality coupling capacitor is a very good idea and money well spent. The purity of the power supply is paramount in any audio device as witnessed by the plethora of LPS units available to replace those cheap, small and generally noisy switching units. I have used a Mundorf Supreme (0.22ufd, think it was the Supreme) across the last cap in the PS with positive results. Do some research specifically on PS bypass caps. Agree with every point that you made. However only so much can be accomplished for a given price target. I have no doubt that your 300b is superior in numerous ways, but no way could it sell for only1500.00 USD either.

It is bewitching, soft and detailed at the same time, a little warm, very rich in harmonics, but without excess! The voices are sublime... Stacey kent, Gundula Janowitz in the last four Lieder of R. Strauss... I mainly use air gap and vacuum caps for the most important components, such as RIAA compensation. For amps, I usually use styrene. I also have the upgraded tubes for extra. Best matched pair from factory of the The Psvane western electric 300b 1:1 replica tubes. Closest replica of the legendary 300b tubes ever made. Factory add an Inductance transformer and Bipolar filter circuit to get the nicer sound for the MKIII.Come with a Tube Cage and VU meters. You certainly have quite the amplifier stash. I wrote earlier that the Bottlehead tube products were although inexpensive they are well thought out engineered components. A price point is targeted and so the best quality parts can not be utilized.

What happens to people with this valve, is it that they have no hearing or is it that they need to crush their ears with loud bass and treble that pierce your brain. I don’t understand. Because so much scorn has been poured on a tube that sounds so natural and balanced. Here are some tubes that I have received from valvesnmore. I do NOT wish to get into an argument about this, but be that as it may, may all of us find reliable sources for all the tubes we are seeking, wherever that source may be from.

I've used most of the caps mentioned here and have found the Duelund Cast, in my case tinned copper version relegates every other cap to a distant second place, really special cap, future plans for going into my speaker crossovers as well. I also like bypass film cap on electrolytic power supply caps if one doesn't have room for all film caps. The 300b project is not a commercial product now. It may be next year in partnership with someone, but it is not my place to do business here at all. Not appropriate. I am sorry, but I stopped modding gear or working on vintage gear maybe 4 or 5 years ago. Just no time or desire. If I didn't build it, then I no longer touch it nor look at it..... Just too many other projects. the Chinese CV181 (Shuguang / Psvane) is a 6SN7 with a CV181 look ... Same heating current, same gain and oval plates." I don’t see the need to excuse rude and obnoxious behavior. I appreciate that we view this differently and that’s fine.
