It all depends on your preferences, hand size, and grip style. The S2 and Deathadder have completely different shapes too. If you want a mouse that’s more form-fitting and shaped ergonomically you can go for the V2 (but keep in mind that DeathAdders are pretty large mice) and if you want a more neutral shape the S2 is a good one to go for.

The S2 is a small-medium sized mouse with an ambidextrous design. What’s immediately noticeable is that Zowie has opted to skip the side buttons on the right side of the mouse which were present on all of their former ambidextrous models. This was done to eliminate any possible interference with grip. The S2, as I said before, has a very safe and comfortable grip so it should be good to go for a very large variety of grip types.

There’s no rattling, squeaking or any give to the shell when doing the usual ‘shake and pressure’ tests so when it comes to build quality the S2 is as solid as can be. It’s pretty loud and rigid feeling, but I feel like Zowie has made steps forward when it comes to the overall feeling of it: the scroll wheel on older Zowie models could sometimes feel a little rattly and flimsy, but that’s not the case here.

The scroll wheel, then, has been changed from earlier models. It now has 24 steps instead of the usual 16 and this really is a blessing. I never really had a big issue with Zowie’s old wheels, but then again I also have the luxury of using different mice for different purposes. I can imagine that Zowie’s loud 16-step wheel got old for a lot of people fast so I think they’ve made a good change here. It’s still a bit loud and it’s not the most secure feeling wheel to me (it can feel a bit ‘flimsy’ when scrolling, and the definition between steps isn’t as crispy as it should be) but all in all it performs fine. The cable is Zowie’s standard rubber cable, which is pretty flexible and thin. It’s not a shoelace-style cable like some other companies have been putting out recently but I honestly cannot say that I was annoyed by this cable, even after having used multiple of these shoelace mice. It’s not the absolute best cable out there (those lace style cables are undoubtedly more flexible and lighter) but it’s definitely more than decent so you won’t have any real issues with this at all.
