The Kreg KMA4700 straight edge guide allows you to make perfectly straight cuts in sheet goods with the precision of the Kreg® Straight Edge Guide. It works with most circular saws, jigsaws, and trim routers to guide your cuts precisely in material up to 2438mm (8 feet). Supplied as 2 x 28" guide rails, 2 x 24" guide rails, 6 x paired connector bars, 2 x cutline indicator arms, adjustable GripMaxx clamp and handle. The primary purpose of a straight edge guide is to ensure that the cuts you make with your circular saw are straight and precise. A good guide will have a solid clamping system that keeps it securely in place while you are sawing, as well as a variety of markings and measurements to help you accurately line up your cuts. It is also important to consider the size and shape of the guide, as this will affect the size and shape of the cuts you can make. Slide the saw’s shoe against the circular saw rip guide to rip the plywood. To ensure a straight cut, press the saw firmly against the straightedge as you push it along. Clamp a perfectly straight board or metal straightedge to a sheet of plywood to make cabinet-quality straight cuts. The key is to align the straightedge at exactly the right distance from the cutting line (Photo 2) and keep the saw shoe tight to the straightedge as you cut. Photo 1 shows how to make a test cut and measure the distance from the edge of the shoe to the edge of the blade. Measure carefully and record the dimension for reference. Then offset the straightedge from the cutting line by this distance (Photo 2). It is also important to keep the saw blade clean. Sawdust and debris can build up on the blade, which can cause the saw to overheat and can also lead to poor cuts. Be sure to keep the blade free of debris by cleaning it off after each use.

The clamps have a padded grip that provides a comfortable grip while reducing hand fatigue. The non-marring pads protect the surface of the material being clamped. If you don’t own a table saw, you can build the guide shown in Fig. A and attach it to your circular saw. It helps you to cut narrow strips (1/2 in. to 6 in. wide) with near table-saw precision (Photo 1). You may have to modify it to fit your saw’s shoe. It takes about an hour to build this circular saw rip guide.
