This nuanced sequel offers new perspectives and emphasizes the value and complexity of both sibling and romantic relationships. I'm still reeling from that ending. I really liked Lia Mara, much more than I expected. She was so genuine and I admired her tenacity. She is badass in an unexpected way. She is filled with doubt and does not have good self-esteem, but seeing her grow throughout the book, filled me with such pride.

Jake and Grey had a rough start, with Grey dragging Harper along with Jake and his boyfriend Noah to Emberfall in an attempt to save them from being shot. The two have been at odds, their opinions often colliding. Over time, the two of them grow to respect each other - so much, that Grey sees Jake as one of his best friends. Which brings me to Harper, my girl. She's barely in this book. I kinda expected that, seeing as ACSDAL was mainly her and Rhen's story and AHSFAB was always supposed to be Grey's. But it's still all interwoven. The story could have used a little more of her, or at least of the brave, stunning girl we got to know in book one. Somehow I don't think that same girl would have forgiven Rhen for FLAYING A CHILD, BUT HEYYYY .. that's just me :'))A Heart so Fierce and Broken was truly a continuation of the original story, after curse was broken. It focuses on the character of Commander Grey instead of Rhen and Harper, though they both make appearances and we see what “Happily Ever After” looks like in the Kingdom of Everfall. I think readers will find it interesting to say the least. Anyways, there is an ease to Brigid’s writing that just pulls you in, the plot itself isn’t bad at all, I think this would have been an incredible book if character decisions made sense and if there was actual depth to the characters. So I will definitely be rereading this once the book is out and in the world because I want to see if anything has changed.
