Everyone has an opinion, yet the truth is that no one can really know what is right. No one can predict the future, and so all we can do is make a decision based on the facts we have, and—sometimes on what our heart tells us.” In the latter half of the book, After The End follows an unusual structure. Pip’s chapters follow her narrative following the imagined scenario if she won in court. Max’s chapters follow his perspective following what would happen if he won in court. This was both interesting a frustrating to follow as a reader. It was fascinating to compare how different choices could impact the characters lives in such a profound way. It was also a bit frustrating and awkward to follow two separate story lines between breaks after each chapter. In some ways, reading a book which follows one storyline that moves ahead in time feels preferable to following two divergent stories, however thought provoking. This is a thought-provoking book which may be difficult for some to read. Even sadder is that the Author herself, lost a child. While reading this book, I often wondered if this was an emotionally challenging book to write or if it was a cathartic experience.

Before incorporated the days leading up to, and directly following, Dylan's parents receiving the devastating news that his tumor had grown to such an extent that they needed to make a decision regarding his future treatment. We were offered three differing, equally valuable perspectives – mother (Pip), father (Max) and one of the consultants looking after Dylan (Dr. Leila Khalili). Before the surprise announcement of the fifth movie, we knew that director Castille Landon was working on two more After movies. One was set to be based on the Hardin-focused prequel Before and the other was to be centred on their children. A beautifully written novel, compelling and clever, tender and true. I can’t stop thinking about it (Liane Moriarty) I can definitely recommend this book but warn that there are some very descriptive elements of severely ill children which may be hard for some people to read. It is well written and covers a subject which is very pertinent in our world of ever increasing technological developments in the medical field.

After The End is written in alternating chapters that each capture a character’s viewpoint. While most chapters tell the story from Max and Pip’s perspectives, some chapters tell the story from Dylan’s doctor, Leila’s point of view. For this reason, readers can easily understand and empathise with the thoughts and emotions of each of the characters. Additionally, Leila’s perspective conveys to readers that the job of a doctor in a hospital that treats critically ill children is quite a challenge, as we come to understand her emotions in treating the children under her care and sharing information with parents. Good question. Glad you asked. While it initially seemed like Eivor was just dreaming of Asgard and Jotunheim after drinking Valka’s potions, the truth is a little more convoluted. She is actually travelling to a time before the Isu originally fell to the Toba Catastrophe but in a Norse skin, thus Eivor is an Isu called Havi - the ancient name for Odin - and planning for the inevitable Ragnarok via a solar flare. Eivor is experiencing a Norse version of actual history, which means that Isu we have seen before, such as Juno and Aletheia are here too, just represented in Norse form. The world of Los Santos is one of the most beautifully realized game settings in recent memory. There’s so much to do and discover that it’s almost overwhelming. After you've beaten the game, you'll immediately want to keep playing. Here is a list of things you can do once you finish the misadventures of Franklin, Michael, and Trevor. After the End” was a uniquely written and thought-provoking novel. I was a little confused at first when reading the "After" chapters but once I caught on it all made sense. I was gripped by this heart-wrenching read. However, I could have done without the Dr’s POV. I didn’t think it added anything relevant to the story as it was more about her personal life, not her medical judgement, and it felt like filler.

The ending didn’t satisfy me. I was waiting more because the elements of the story are strong, well-rounded, characters were also well-developed, strong and writing was solid. Max and Pip are the strongest couple you know. Only now they’re facing the most important decision of their lives – and they don’t agree.
