Description

After 4 weeks I stopped using Yakult and just had the one capsule of Alflorex a day as before and my stomach started to feel normal again. Easy and calm digestion reduced the bloating and made eating a lot more enjoyable. After 1 week I noticed subtle changes, but not dramatic. The bloating I would usually feel after a larger meal felt less uncomfortable, but I wasn’t sure if this was just a placebo effect and you can’t really tell after 1 week alone anyway. Since being diagnosed and learning more about IBS, I tried a few other probiotics (see my review of Symprove Probiotics here), which were pretty good, so I was less sceptical when this year I was given the chance to try Alflorex probiotics. Kefir, kimchi, kombucha – supermarket shelves are filling with so-called ‘gut-friendly’ probiotic products. But can they really transform your health, or are you just flushing money down the drain?

Among the numerous clinical studies showing Alflorex’s effectiveness was a fascinating one done on 362 female patients with IBS. Half were given a placebo and half were given Alflorex to take and their IBS symptoms were monitored daily. The research, published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology found that at the end of the four weeks the women taking the Alflorex saw their symptoms significantly improve, especially abdominal pain, constipation, bloating and wind. In addition to containing powerful probiotics, some supplements also contain prebiotics. These are plant fibers that humans cannot digest, but that bacteria can consume as food. The most common types are lactulose, inulin and various oligosaccharides ( 38). You may find a particular type of probiotic helps with one problem. But this doesn't mean it'll help other problems, or that other types of probiotic will work just as well.

Took 6 weeks to work properly, I have now successfully stopped the Days of The runs followed by constipation for days thanks to thse pills. Wouldnt be without them now pity nothing on offer from GP's. Highly recommended for IBS.” – July 29, 2017 There are 3 different formulations of this probiotic supplement as of January, 2019: capsules, straws, and chewables. When a supplement contains both probiotic microorganisms and prebiotic fibers, it is called a synbiotic ( 39) .

This evidence also worked for TV presenter Zoe Salmon, who has suffered from IBS since her late teens. After years of trying diets and supplements, Zoe, 37 started taking Alflorex. The golden rule is to tailor treatment to your specific symptoms. For example, certain strains of probiotics have some evidence of reducing IBS symptoms, but others don’t.In rare cases, the bacteria or yeasts found in probiotics can enter the bloodstream and cause infections in susceptible individuals ( 41, 42, 43, 44). Marketing materials say it " is the #1 Gastroenterologist recommended probiotic culture in the U.S.” This claim is based on a survey performed in 2017 among doctors and/or gastroenterologists who recommended a brand of probiotic by a human data service company, AlphaImpactRx. Marketing materials also state that it is the winner of awards from Irish pharmacists and industry experts, who voted it the winner of Best Gastrointestinal Product for 3 years in a row at the Irish Pharmacy News OTC (over-the-counter) Awards. A new probiotic, called Alflorex, is the result of more than 15 years of clinical research and 75 leading scientific publications. Alflorex contains a probiotic strain called B. infantis3564 which specifically targets and alleviates the symptoms of IBS. Only recently launched in the UK, the strain is known in the US as Align, where it is the number one probiotic recommended by gastroenterologists for the treatment of IBS. ‘The gut bacteria plays an important role in many digestive health issues,’ says Professor Eammon Quigley, one of the world’s leading Gastroenterologists in IBS and Chief of Gastroenterology at Houston Methodist Hospital. ‘ B. infantis 35624, the strain in Alflorex, is one of the few products that has been truly developed on a scientific basis and tested in high quality clinical studies to help the symptoms of IBS.’ In the US it’s the number one probiotic recommended by gastroenterologists for IBS Gut bacteria and probiotics
