About this deal

As you'd expect from Miele this is exceptionally well made and feels like it'll last for decades. Which sadly is more than we can say for the battery: we ran out of power before we completed a full clean of our home, so we were glad for the included second battery. And if you have hard floors, look for a vacuum cleaner that comes with a dedicated cleaner head, which has a softer brush roll to ensure the flooring isn’t damaged when vacuuming. Vacs come with a range of whizzy extra features and accessories, but which ones do you really need? Floor-cleaning tools

Cons Tend to have a smaller dust capacity, so you'll need to empty them more frequently. Easy to overfill, as the maximum level is often lower than it looks. Can be messy to empty, as dust and fluff can get wedged inside, and dust escapes into the air when emptying. Bagged vacuum cleaners Bagless vacuums Have a reusable container that you empty. No ongoing costs, but can be messy to empty. When the floor looks dirty” I hear you cry, but to keep your home allergen-free and your floors as clean as possible, you’ll need to vacuum more regularly than this. However, it is a bulky appliance so it may be a problem to store. We were also disappointed there were no LEDs on the floor cleaning head - a feature offered by some vacuums in this list - which makes it easier when cleaning in dark spaces under furniture. The Miele Triflex HX2 Pro is the brand's most powerful vacuum cleaner. It's a solid bit of kit, easy to manoeuvre and with the ability to detect when you transition from carpet to hard floor. However, the small dust canister and short battery life cloud what is otherwise a superb cordless vacuum cleaner.Manufacturers of bagless vacuums often claim that bagged models lose suction as the bag fills up, whereas bagless vacs don't. Some also claim their bagless systems have hygienic emptying features. We recommend vacuuming most floors once a week while increasing this to twice a week in high-traffic areas such as hallways and doorways. Especially, if you have carpet, as the longer dust is left, the more it becomes embedded in the fibres making it hard to thoroughly clean. Image credit: TechRadar) Frequently asked questions about vacuum cleaners Is Shark better than Dyson? It cleaned fantastically and pulled up pet hair without tangling, but its ultra-powerful suction proved both a blessing and a curse – it's so strong it makes it hard to glide the floorhead over long-pile carpet. (Tip: put it in eco mode for easier manoeuvring).

Battery life aside this is a very powerful and capable cleaner, and the automatic floor detection is useful and works very well. It's a little pricey compared to some rivals but it's a premium product and Miele tests all its products with the equivalent of 20 years of intensive use, so it's built tough and should last forever. Most vacs include a basic set consisting of a crevice tool, upholstery tool and dusting brush, or a combination tool which does several of these jobs. Here are some others to look out for: The Baby nose-clear aspirator allows you to safely and naturally clear your baby's nose for clearer breathing, easier feeding and better sleep. Removing excess mucus also helps prevent further complications such as coughs, ear infections and tummy upsets.

Dyson's V15 cordless vacuum cleaner really is its most impressive yet. However, we've found that both bagged and bagless options can lose suction as the bag or container fills up. We've also tested bagless vacs with hygienic emptying features, and found they still released much more dust into the room when emptied than bagged models. It ran for over an hour on low, or 19 minutes on a mix of speeds. It's expensive, sure, but it's an innovative treat that actually makes hoovering fun. Shark and Dyson are two of the biggest names dominating the floor care market right now, so if you’re considering kitting your home out with a powerful new vacuum, it makes sense to opt for one of these brands.
