The Baby-Sitters Club (also known as BSC) is a series of novels written by Ann M. Martin and published by Scholastic between 1986 and 2000, that sold 180 million copies. [1] Martin wrote an estimated 60-80 novels in the series, but the subsequent novels were written by ghostwriters, such as Peter Lerangis. In 2006, Graphix, a division of Scholastic, released a graphic novel version of the first novel, Kristy's Great Idea. The novel is a contemporary yet faithful adaptation illustrated by Raina Telgemeier, an Eisner Awards-winning author and illustrator. The series continued with the release of The Truth About Stacey, Mary Anne Saves the Day, and concluded with Claudia and Mean Janine. It’s also worth considering that there are 131 Baby-Sitters Club novels in the original series – plus dozens of spin-offs and 122 Baby-Sitters Little Sister novels. That’s a lot of material to adapt! Considering it takes a long time to draw a graphic novel, it’s possible Scholastic may not get around to adapting them all. Baby-Sitters Club: Claudia and the New Girl cover by Gabriela Epstein. The Baby-Sitters Club graphic novelsReaders' Requests: These were special novels featuring associate members Logan Bruno and Shannon Kilbourne, and their personal lives away from the Baby-Sitters Club. The book “The Baby-Sitters Club” (Boy-Crazy Stacy) is a graphic novel by Gale Galligan and Ann M. Martin. It follows two girls named Stacy and Mary Anne that are enjoying their summer before they go to eighth grade next year. Stacy and Mary Anne are going on a vacation to the New Jersey shore together to take care of eight kids. When they go down to the beach Stacy is distracted by a boy named Scott so she goes to talk to him which gets Mary Anne annoyed because she has to take care of the kids by herself. Although Mary Anne is annoyed with Stacy she finds a boy also named Alex. Alex helps Mary Anne take care of the kids since Stacy isn’t helping. Alex is also babysitting his family member so that added a couple of kids to the mix. Abby was supposed to be called Lucy Ricardo after Ann M. Martin's favorite show I Love Lucy and Anna was called Ethel after Lucy's best friend. But the name the twins contest was made to guess the twin's names and Abby and Anna Stevenson were chosen by Martin and her editors. Abby and Anna Stevenson were made up by Sara Ruth Bell of Missouri who was the winner of the contest. The Baby-Sitters Club: Friends Forever: These novels are an extension of the original series, which focused on the original four members (Kristy, Mary Anne, Claudia, and Stacey). They were set following the fire at Mary Anne's house, which drastically impacted the lives of The Baby-Sitters Club members, and concluded with a final Super Special detailing the older club member's graduation from Stoneybrook Middle School. Stoneybrook is a fictional suburban town in the state of Connecticut. It is the hometown of many of the characters in both The Baby-Sitters Club series and the Baby-Sitters Little Sister series as well. The town was based on Princeton, New Jersey where Ann M. Martin was born in.

So I finally got to this graphic novel version of the original book and there are multiple changes they made to this. While the overall plot is the same, numerous dialogues were either cut out or reduced greatly, which greatly helps in reading through at a faster pace. In doing so, they changed some of the wording a bit, possibly to give it a more "modern" update, along with the appearance of the girls as they wore clothing that resembles 2010s attire than 80s-styled. What I found to be a minor annoyance was that Scott was changed from a 17 year-old blonde lifeguard to a 15 year-old tanned brunette. Not sure if it's because a 13 year-old crushing on a 17 would sit uneasy today, but the way he's draw still makes him look older than 15. Additionally, conversations between Scott and Stacey were cut even more, so it didn't have the same impact as the original of a crush. In 1996 a computer game titled Baby-Sitters Club Friendship Kit was produced by Phillips Media. It had the main members of The Baby-Sitters Club represented in videos that played, which would introduce each feature. It took place in Claudia's room. As a kid I LOVED the Baby-Sitters Club and would often spend hours scouring the library for the next title. Honestly, I probably read the series longer than I should have (reading level-wise), but it always felt like visiting friends. While I have never wanted to be a babysitter, I loved the club idea. As a bossy creative kid this was right up my alley. The friendships in this book was something I had always wanted. This was a series I grew up with and was my favourite for a long time. Confession time, I may have had a bit of a crush on Logan. This article is about the novel series. For the 1990 TV series, see The Baby-Sitters Club (1990 TV series). Official logo for both the novel and TV series.Baby-Sitters Little Sister: Karen’s Witch cover by Katy Farina. Baby-Sitters Little Sister graphic novels I actually read Boy-Crazy Stacey, BSC #8, because I've been listening to the Babysitters Club Club podcast and that book was perfectly fine, but this graphic novel winnows the chaff from Boy Crazy Stacey into a more focused, and more realistic, drama about beaches, boys and babysitting. On April 30, 2019, it was announced that there are plans for a series of Baby-Sitters Little Sister graphic novels illustrated by Katy Farina and colored by Braden Lamb. The first graphic novel, Karen's Witch, was released on December 26, 2019. This was followed by Karen's Roller Skates which was released on July 7, 2020, Karen's Worst Day which was released on December 29, 2020. Karen's Kittycat Club was released on July 20, 2021, Karen's School Picture was released on February 1, 2022, Karen's Birthday was released on January 3, 2023, Karen's Haircut was released on July 4, 2023. [30] Super Mysteries: These resembled the style of the Super Specials, with multiple narrators, only the plot of the novel was mainly focused on solving a mystery, with a few small subplots.
