About this deal

Made in South Africa, this Cruxland Gin is infused with Kalahari truffle to give it its distinctive taste, alongside more standard botanicals like honeybush and almond. Boodles is known for its distinctive floral nose and lingering juniper flavor, with a clean finish. [1] [12] It contains a blend of nine botanicals: juniper, coriander seed, angelica root, angelica seed, cassia bark, caraway seed, nutmeg, rosemary and sage. [7] It is made in a vacuum still, a process that allows the gin to retain more of the flavors of its botanicals. [12] Unlike other London Dry gins, Boodles contains no citrus ingredients. [3] Honors and awards [ edit ] Being a fan of their London Dry (review to come…!), we were very excited to get our hands on something new and most importantly, great for Christmas! You might expect a costlier price tag, but, despite its intricate ingredients, Cruxland won’t break the bank. This gin uses Hebridean sugar kelp as one of its botanicals, bottling a taste of the Scottish Isle of Harris where it is made.

It’s tough to review Boodles Mulberry Gin on its own, as sloe gin is a spirit that’s best enjoyed in quite modest proportions, but which can shine incredibly as a mixer. I sense the same type of fate for this curious and unique product. Sloe gin is a much loved variant that will be familiar to any connoisseurs of the drink. It also serves as the inspiration behind Boodles Mulberry Gin, which swaps out the sloes for mulberries, resulting in an exotic twist on the classic tipple.

Boodles Proper British Gin introduces Boodles Mulberry, the first-ever mulberry gin in America. Boodles Mulberry pays homage to the humble mulberry tree which has been a familiar sight in the English countryside for centuries. Inspired by the traditional sloe gin liqueur, Boodles Mulberry is a fresh interpretation of a British classic. Another spirit that blends gin with a cuppa, though this time Southwold’s Adnams are using matcha tea from Japan. Boodles was named after Boodle's gentlemen's club in St. James's, London, founded in 1762 and originally run by Edward Boodle. It was reputed to be the favourite gin of the club's most famous member, Winston Churchill, [1] though the same has been claimed for Plymouth Gin. [2] As we are currently in the middle of Afternoon Tea Week (10 th to 16 th August) we thought we would take a look at a twist on the traditional British tradition with Boodles Gin and the Boodles Butler, who is the ultimate expert on traditional British etiquette, as he guides us through the perfect gin tea-pot serves. Boodles British Gin is a brand of gin bottled and distributed in the United Kingdom by Proximo Spirits.

With the spirit itself distilled from rye grains grown in the fields of Suffolk, this is a surprising but pleasant East-meets-West situation. The taste combines delicate mulberries with notes of raspberry and currant to create a sweet and subtle medley. Boodles Mulberry adds the perfect complement to Boodles British Gin’s unique botanicals of rosemary, nutmeg and sage, creating the proper balance and complexity of flavour. If on inspection there is any damage or shortage it is imperative that this is noted on the delivery note at the time of delivery as claims will not be considered if this is not completed.Smell: What greets the nose is a lovely, fresh smell of mulberries. Harris Distillery also sell their Sugar Kelp Aromatic Water separately, to add even more crisp sea air to your drink. We managed to try both the bloodhound and the proper punch. Both are fantastic but our favourite is definitely the proper punch! It works so well as a winter warmer and is just ideal for this time of year. If you’re after something a little different for Christmas, I would certainly give this new gin a go!

I don’t want to go into too much depth about Boodles and their famous London Dry as I’ll reserve that for a later review but in brief, their original gin is distilled from a base spirit of British wheat, infused with traditional herbs and spices including nutmeg, sage and rosemary. Added to this are mulberries with notes of raspberry and currant. Boodles® Gin is available nationwide at Sainsbury’s and most exclusive bars and retailers, but for more information, please visit: www.boodlesgin.com Of course, if you are going to prepare an afternoon tea, it really should be served properly with finger sandwiches, delicious freshly made scones with lashings of strawberry jam and Devonshire clotted cream and of course the finest bone-china pots. And do avoid putting ice in the pot itself, only place it in the serving cup.
