On the wrist, the Blue Planet wears wonderfully. The soft curve of the case and supple rubber strap definitely place it on the more comfortable end of the spectrum as watches go. The titanium case keeps the ensemble light enough, yet still substantial. And although the diameter is officially 46mm, with no lugs to speak of, the Blue Planet wears as well as any mid-size watch with a similar lug-to-lug measurement. I have a smaller wrist and didn’t experience any discomfort or overhang. The globe is carved in relief and looks great from all angles. The contrast between the electroplated ocean and topographic landmasses serves to create a real sense of depth. Framing the Earth are the minute and hour scales. Under most lighting conditions, it’s not detectable to the naked eye. Still, since I did notice it, I thought it worth mentioning. MovementI think you have to approach a piece like this with a different mindset. It’s not the “daily watch” most consumers are looking for. Its avant-garde styling isn’t necessarily versatile or practical. Trying to use the Blue Planet as a practical watch will likely end in frustration. It’s a rounded design with deep grooves that somewhat reminds me of the cap on a stainless steel water bottle. Overall, the design is cool, but I find myself missing the sense of motion you get from a traditional three hander’s second sweep. Since there’s no seconds indicator, there isn’t really a way to know if the watch is running at a glance. The grooved ceramic crown ensures an added sense of wholeness and a smooth efficient winding. Watch Specification There are a few Chinese watch brands such as Seagull, Shanghai and Beijing that are known to watch enthusiasts and collectors. These brands have been producing quality watches with very affordable prices mainly for the domestic market. CIGA is certainly a newcomer with greater ambition, aspiring to follow the footsteps of Huawei and DJI (top drone maker) who are both headquartered in Shenzhen as well. Sure, the refinement of high horology isn’t there for us to ogle, but wouldn’t that make a risky design all the more conceptual? If the product has no quality problems, the cost of returning the product such as freight, customs duties and other costs shall be borne by the consumer.
