Description

We filled up enough water balloons for each child to have three balloons. With a permanent marker, we wrote the name of each child on each balloon (you want each child to have three). We used a shepherd hook as the sword of our swordfish. Each child had to find the balloons with their names on them. This is great practice for name recognition. They then took turns throwing the balloons at the swordfish trying to pop their balloons. Did you know that blue whales are the largest creature ever to have lived on Earth? They’re even bigger than dinosaurs! Head to the playground with some sidewalk chalk and a tape measure to see if you can draw a life-size blue whale model. Here’s another surprisingly easy ocean craft for kids. Cut disposable sponges into coral shapes, then stamp an underwater scene. Fix the Picture Under the Sea Cutting Skills Worksheet - Help your children improve their cutting skills with this worksheet. It’s their job to cut out the pieces of the seabed scene and put them where they think they must go, completing the picture. They can also improve their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. More books about the ocean for kids: We filled the water table with icebergs (water I had frozen in bowls in the freezer) and these realistic looking penguins too. Great language was developing through this imaginative play.

This cool demo uses hot and cold water mixed with a little food coloring to demonstrate how ocean currents form. (The plastic sea animals are just for fun!) The author, Giles Andreae, is the narrator. He uses both direct and indirect characterization in the form of short, rhyming stanzas to chronicle the characters. The sea creatures in the book range from a tiny barnacle to a massive blue whale. Again, each of these worksheets is supported by an interactive Smart board 10 notebook file to aid teaching and provide extra practice for pupils. Tip: Don’t fill them too far in advance. The longer they sat, the more prone they were to popping before we were ready for this event. 10. Don’t Soak the Shark

Help children learn all about different animals who live in the ocean with this charming book by Giles Andreae. From the coast to the bottom of the sea, you'll meet turtles, sharks and deep-sea creatures. The book has a simple, repeating rhyme scheme - each animal has its own sub-heading and a short poem dedicated to their characteristics. There are cheerful and bright illustrations, too. Learn the zones of the ocean with these clever bottles. Simply use food coloring to dye the water deeper shades of blue to represent the amount of sunlight that reaches each zone, then add a representative sea animal toy. This entertaining, exciting and visual piece of theatre helps children to learn about the issue of marine pollution and the impact of littering and waste on both the environment and nature. Featuring original songs this show will create memories for children to treasure. Read the book again. In you Bust Books tell me out of all the creatures in the book which is your favourite? Why? Start to learn the poem about your favourite creature in the book. A seashore adventure with sassy seagulls, singing sea life and an environmental issue which is growing rapidly out of control.

The book takes place in the Ocean. The book is written in tiny poems. For each animal there are four to five line poems about each creature. The book has many characters including sharks, whales, crab, turtles, and many more. The authors use very descriptive words when describing the animals and the poem is rhymed. Commotion in the Ocean” is set in all of the seas that cover the world. There is no specific time frame in which the book itself covers. This book is about all different kinds of fish and animals that live in and around the sea. It explains each of the creatures telling what they look like and how they live. This book teaches that the ocean is way more than just a mass of water. It shows that it is a home to more living things than anyone can imagine. I believe the purpose of this book is to educate people on creatures of the sea. There is not specifically a theme in this book.Invite your child to pretend to be a sea creature and move around the room. Try and guess what animal they have chosen. Fingerplay and songs The Stooges play janitors who work at a newspaper office, begging to be given a chance to become reporters. The managing editor ( Charles C. Wilson) promises to think about it over dinner. The phone rings while he is out and Moe answers. The person on the other end is one of the boss's reporters, Smitty ( Emil Sitka), who relays a scoop to Moe that some important documents have been stolen by foreign spies. Coincidentally, the spy with the microfilmed documents, Mr. Borscht ( Gene Roth) lives next door to the Stooges. He and the boys wind up as stowaways on an ocean liner. Stranded on a freighter on the high seas, and sustained by eating salami, the boys eventually overtake Borscht, recover the microfilm, and are thrilled with their newspaper scoop. The characters in the book are all of the animals that live in the ocean that are described in the book. It describes many of them. Like the shark, it eats other fish. The stingray will sting other creatures with the stinger on its tail. Also the blue whale, the biggest beast on the planet. We made these water blobs from hello, Wonderful blog for the kids to sun on like walruses. We added foam letters to our blob for kids to practice a little letter recognition as they were lounging in the sun. It would have been super cool, but we sprung a lot of leaks and this one didn’t last long. Next time, I will make sure to have a good seal at least 4-6 inches wide. Also, it’s very important this this is done on a flat surface. One of our seams had too much pressure on it which didn’t help with leaking. 4. Fishing Fun

Lessons and Standards: K-LS1-1 Use observations to describe patterns of what plants and animals need to survive. This book to be read aloud and then the teacher could conduct a conversation about what is needed for these animals that we just read about to survive. 2-LS4-1 Make observations of plants and animals to compare the diversity of life in different habitats. Use the habitats discussed in this book to compare to other habitats for this lesson. I think that the book is a really good way to introduce creatures and animals that live in the sea to the children in a way they would understand and remember. This week we will be using the story 'Commotion in the Ocean'. If you do not have a copy at home then I have attached a PowerPoint and PDF copy below, along with a YouTube video of the book being read.Plot: This plot is chronological in taking readers on a journey from the sandy beach to the bottom of the ocean, exploring all of the animals and creatures in between. We didn’t do this one, but I love this Don’t Soak the Shark game from Toddler Approved. It’s great for practicing letter matching. Kids will definitely love personalizing their beach scenes. You can use air-dry clay or salt dough to create the sand side of your ocean scene. You can make it easier or harder for your children by choosing between the different mats. There are two with six images and one with three. To make things really difficult, why not put all of the mats together? You could create a group activity out of this challenge. Level 1 – matching rhymes, creating sentences from muddled words, matching animals to their descriptions, matching synonyms, using contractions, a true/false/can’t tell activity, punctuating sentences, matching halves of sentences, sorting words with long and short vowels and identifying adjectives.
