About this deal

However, I had to go through an extra step, as my boiler had also lost a bit of pressure and wouldn’t start. Boilers should be pressurised to 1bar. To top up, you need to open the filling loop, turning off when the boiler’s display indicates 1bar (a little over won’t cause any harm, say 1.2bar). On my boiler, the filling loop consists of two taps located underneath the boiler; both must be opened to fill and both closed when done. Your boiler’s manual will tell you the correct procedure if you’re not sure. Increase the fall angle of the condensate pipe. This will help to improve the flow and reduce the likelihood of internal freezing. The water that travels through a condensate pipe is slightly acidic, which is why the condensate pipe needs to be plastic because metal piping would corrode. Of course, leaking water of any kind is not ideal in or around your home, leaking acidic water can cause more damage if it lands on something susceptible to corrosion. And, if outside, a gust of wind could blow the acidic water off onto a car and damage the paint over time! The first indication that your boiler condensate pipe is frozen will usually be that you have no hot water and heating, even when you are sure your boiler has been working absolutely fine. You may also be able to hear an unfamiliar gurgling sound coming from your boiler. In most cases, problems experienced with your condensate pipe are relatively minor. In some cases, the condensate pipe can stop the boiler working all together, but these situations rarely damage the boiler, just prevent it from functioning. Which is not to say that you should just ignore the problem—especially if you are living in one of the cooler climates of the world—but you probably won’t have to shell out for an entirely new boiler because of it.

When a condensate pipe freezes, it can cause noticeable symptoms with your boiler system. Watch for these warning signs: Again, this is filled with limestone chippings to neutralise the condensate water. Advice from an experienced engineerAvoid excessive heat sources: While it may be tempting to use a heat gun or other high-temperature devices, it’s best to avoid excessive heat sources. Direct exposure to high temperatures can damage the pipe or other components of the boiler system.

condensate drain line from freezing? How can I prevent my HVAC condensate drain line from freezing?

If you’ve heard stories of condensate pipes freezing or being awkward to route to a drain – or even that it may have to run across the surface of a wall from the boiler to a drain – then you’re not alone. We ended up cutting off the entire run of the outside pipe. Now there's only a spout facing directly down. The spout is about 3 feet off the ground. Having fitted my fair share of condensates over the years, there are some things to know, however. Let me share the 6 most important facts about condensates with you below, so you can consider yourself clued-up. 1. All modern boilers can’t run without one While many modern combi boilers have integrated frost technology to combat this there are some other methods of prevention and ways to resolve the problem if it should occur.

My condensate pipe is frozen

Is there a way to run the system in emergency mode, so that we're not all shivering, until we fix it? I read about this online but don't know how to do it When this occurs, the water travelling down the pipe freezes, which automatically prevents your boiler from being able to fire up. The result? No heating or hot water during the winter…right when you need it the most! A standard modern gas condensing boiler can produce typically anywhere between 2-3 litres of condensate waste for every hour the boiler is functioning. NOTE: If you use a Cesspit in your garden, be aware that you will be unable to position the condensate pipe near this.
