The only other thing I can think of is if you get any problems due to BT ISP subscription/menu maybe slightly different software then you need to do a software reset via Maintenance mode setup. Lastly, on the flip side, if the HDD is ok, is there anyway I can recover the recordings e.g. via PC? Alternatively, if I could get hold of another working DTR2100 cheaply, could I swap the HDDs on them and have the replacement one read the HDD from this box? So, is there an explanation? I'm guessing the tuner in the DTR-T2100 is either more or less sensitive than the DTR-T1000 and is being affected by not differentiating between East and West Midlands frequencies. Is a variable attenuator or a booster likely to make any difference? Is the aerial somehow at fault in both houses?

It may well be that the new box is slightly less sensitive and therefore COM7 is just below the digital threshold of its reception capability. (Does it permit manual tuning to frequency channel 31? If so that may show up as a poor signal level and/or quality readout. You could also compare it to the readings given on your box that works OK.) If I take their box to my house still set to the East Midlands it fails to get the channels. If I set the box with a West Midlands B1 postcode the box gets Talking Pictures, but of course the regional programming is incorrect. The YouView user interface here is the same as you'll find on the old BT box, as well as on unbranded boxes, or that from rivals TalkTalk. The actual BT element only really impacts on the experience when you step into the sections that BT adds to the mix.

APV used to work albeit very sluggishly compared to Netflix, having seen the Software update link I note that the new version was rolled out from 10 Oct, shortly before my problem started. Could the new software release be the cause of my problem? It could be the HDD, but it could be the PSU as well - often high ESR capacitors in the PSU produce such symptoms, but also often cause other damage - including killing the HDD.

Try unplugging the HDD and see if it will boot, it will likely protest about not having a drive but you should get some response out of it. There are no fans, so it’s virtually silent except for the exceptionally quiet whirring of the laptop-style hard drive. Unless you’re right next to the box, this is inaudible, so it’s ideal for bedrooms as well as the living room or kitchen. Note that the Ultra HD version does have a fan, which can be a little irritating in a quiet room. All youview boxes, including yours, will adapt their screen displays according to which ISP it is connected to. From your description it sounds as though you are still with BT. While you remain with BT, as your ISP, the on screen display will stay the same. To remove BT livery from your box you will need to change your ISP away from BT, but that won't make any difference to your box's updates that you are interested in. All in all - if you see a TT box (the 372 model) at the right money, don't be put off by some saying that it's not as good as some other box - it's not at all bad. After a few seconds the "Enter Maintenance Mode Y/N (Y: POWER)" message appears towards the bottom of the screen. Immediately release the down arrow button.

BT YouView+ box review - Tech Advisor

There are 4 other resets and with the appropriate selection you can reload the software and keep your recordings. I'd also bought a DTR-T2100 a fornight before and initailly had them both scheduled to record the same porgrammes for a few weeks. Unlike the DTR-T2100 the TalkTalk box did not miss one recording. Thank you for your replies, I read some where that the HD content only is encrypted, can anyone confirm this. You may already have received this or your box is due soon to obtain it. Youview roll the updates out in batches, not everyone gets them at same time. But if you are referring to the new features with the BT Pro box, this is not available on your box (as far as I know currently/not sure about future updates being rolled out). West Mids = Sutton Coldfield COM7 = freq.ch 33 @ -4dB... but received via an aerial pointing the wrong way. SC is often very good if not better than Waltham in parts of the E.Mids for the main channels at least... so that may explain why it works when set like that even though the aerial is pointing the wrong way?For recording radio programes all youview boxes are unreliable. This is due to the youview boxes having no manual option for setting up timers. Even when I was trying to use my DTR-T2100 as my prime device I had to keep my HDR-FOX T2 fully running in parallel for radio programmes. The (non-retail) DTR-T2100 is practically identical to the (retail) DTR-T2110 but comes in a plan brown box and the label on the underside identyfing as the DTR-T2100 'model'. There is no other difference. If I recall correctly even the on-screen system information menu does not differentiate the two.
