About this deal

O Allah! Accept my apology and have pity on my intense sufferings and set me free from my heavy fetters (of evil deeds) My Nourisher! Have mercy on the infirmity of my body, the delicacy of my skin and the brittleness of my bones O' Thou! O' my God! My master! My Lord! And my Nourisher! What! Wilt Thou see me punished with the fire kindled by Thee despite my belief in Thy unity? Based on this part of the du'a, there are some sins which would hinder one's supplications and prayers. Du'a (prayer) has to go higher and higher to reach God. If you send a message to a very kind person asking for help, there is no doubt that when he receives the message he would come and help you. However, you should make sure that the message has reached him. Therefore, if it is put in the wrong envelope or is without a proper stamp, then no help would be offered because the message did not reach the person. According to Allamah Majlsi, Du'a Kumayl is the best du'a. This du'a, narrated from the prophet Khidr (a), has been taught by Imam 'Ali (a) to a prominent companion of his named Kumayl ibn Ziyad Al- Nakha'i. Although apparently prophet Khidr (a) is the one who initially composed this du'a, it can be claimed that because he is still alive and is with the Hujjah of every age and era, he may indeed have been inspired by Imam 'Ali (a). When Khwaja performed geomancy, he saw Ibn e Hajib sitting over a sea of blood. He became astonished and began to search him but failed to find any sign of him. At last, he planned a plot and decided to weigh a herd of sheep and distribute it between the people of Baghdad. He distributed them on the condition that each one of them has to return the sheep with the same weight as he had taken it. He sent one to the host of Ibn e Hajid as well.

He sent his servants for Ibn e Hajib who arrested him and brought him near Khwaja and Halaku. Khwaja said to him: My horn is this emperor who lived in Toos and I promised you that I would bring him. So that I may lead myself towards Thee in the field with the vanguards who are in the fore rank and be swift towards Thee among those who hasten towards Thee and urge eagerly to be near Thee and draw myself towards Thee like them who sincerely draw themselves towards Thee and to fear Thee like the fear of those who believe firmly in Thee and thus I may join the congregation of the faithful congregated near Thee (for protection) Then using geomancy, Khwaja located the area of that child and found out his house. He saw a lady in the house who had two infants, he requested the lady to give him those two infants and then began to nurture both of them. He understood with his cleverness that who among the two will become the king in the future, and grew up to become Halaku Khan. Then he put enormous effort for his upbringing, until the day when Halaku attained maturity. That man acted upon the command of Ibn e Hajib till he returned the sheep. They saw that all the sheep differed from their original weight except the sheep given to the host of Ibn e Hajib.

In other words, one can say that such actions are not worthy of God since people do not expect Him (swt) to put such a person in hellfire; a person who obviously really loves Him (swt) because he (a) declares that even if he (a) were placed in hell and punished, yet he (a) would still cry out that he (a) loves God since he (a) knows that such tortures are due to his own faults and all Divine judgments are correct. Thus, this is a real and true love and not a deceitful one. Someone who pretends to love God while he does not really love Him in his heart, would start blaming Him (swt) and complaining as soon as he faces a problem. Divine Punishments Interestingly, although in such a bad condition, we still ask God to complete His favour towards us! If a person solves 90% of someone else's problems, only solving the remaining 10% would make them a perfect benefactor. If someone invites us to their house and provides us with every kind of facility, food and so on and only forgets to bring us water, then we would not call them a perfect host. If we open a school for poor students and throughout the school year we offer them everything needed and only close the school for a week, claiming that they have received 95% of their education, then that would have a negative effect on them. Regarding this, an Arabic maxim says O Allah! Forgive me my such sins as would change divine favours (into disfavours (O Allah! Forgive me my such sins as would hinder my supplication O Allah! Forgive me such sins as bring down misfortunes (or afflictions) O Allah! Forgive my such sins as would suppress hope It is narrated from Late Sheikh Bahayi (R.A.) that he said: Muqaddas e Ardabeli (R.A.) was asked about the factor that helped him to reach such a high position?

Dua Kumayl / The Supplication of Kumayl - Qul

O Allah! Except Thee I do not find any one able to pardon my sins nor to conceal my loathsome acts Nor have I any one except Thee to change my evil deeds into virtues There is no god but Thou glory and praise be to Thee I have made my own soul to suffer I had the audacity (to sin) by my ignorance Relying upon my past remembrance of Thee and Thy grace towards me All the people are tearful in the Hereafter except three: one who closes his eyes to what Allah forbade, one who remains alive for Allah, and one cries for the fear of Allah at midnight. 5 Leaving apart all these things, Khwaja could find out, using geomancy, the sheep which was kept in the house of Ibn e Hajib’s host, needless of keeping the condition of preventing the change in its weight.Kumayl Ibn Ziyad was a prominent companion of Amir al Muminin, Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib (as.) and this sublime Dua was first heard from the beautiful, though anguished, voice of Imam Ali. Thou hast therefore a (just) cause against me in all those matters and I have no plea against Thy judgement passed against me I have therefore become (justifiably) liable to Thy judgement and afflictions O Allah! My Lord! How many of my loathsome acts hast Thou screened (from public gaze) How many of my grievous afflictions (distresses) hast Thou reduced in severity And how many of my stumblings hast Thou protected, how many of my detestable acts has Thou averted, and how many of my undeserving praises hast Thou spread abroad!
